I was wondering if there is anyone out there that could be of assistance to a complete newbie. I recently purchased a Viper V790xv to install in my 2002 Mustang GT but I am not sure where I should start. I would like to have the opportunity to learn this stuff instead of just taking it to a shop and have it done for me, however being as new at this as I am, I am at a loss.

I of course would like to install the Remote start and having read through this forum I believe I need to get a #1 securilock interface kit to do this, because of the current anti-theft device.

I also want to install a window roll-up module along with the system. It is the DEI 530T.

Any assistance anyone can provide in doing this, would be of great help.

Also, are there any types of books available that would be of assistance in learning to install a security system?

Thanks,

Kyle

You are going to be in the garage for about 2 - 3 days with the car all apart. There are alot of things that you will need to do prior to installing the system.

  • Make sure that you have all the proper tools for the job ( DMM, wire cutters, soldering iron, electrical tape, screwdrivers, socket set, & other items too to make installer smoother )
  • READ the installation instructions thoroughly backwards and forwards. Understand what you are doing before you do it. This alone will save you time and headaches later.
  • Do it right the first time so you don't have to rip everything apart because a wire was not properly soldered or connected.

Here is a wiring diagram to get you started with some installation notes to go with them. Another thing to do is do a search in the archives here on this forum for other late model Mustang installations and see what other members had problems with. Use as much of the resources availble to you as possible:

Notes:
NOTE:  This vehicle has the PATS anti-theft system.    *1 Also found at the GEM module located above the drivers kick panel to the drivers side of the steering column.  *2 There are two door trigger wires.  Use yellow/black for the drivers door and gray/red for the passengers door. Both wires are found above the drivers kick panel in a 20 pin connector. Use both wires and diode isoate each.  *3 For the 3.8L motor, use the dk. blue/lt. green, RED / lt. blue, or the pink/white.  All of these wires are found at the coil pack.  The 4.6L motor uses a separate coil for each cylinder.  Go to any coil and use the wire that is NOT red or WHITE/ lt. blue.   *4 The PCM is located behind the passenger kick panel.   *5 The amplifier is located just below the radio.
