After having my car totalled by thiefs when they did $7,000 worth of damage while breaking in, I'm going to invest in making my car extremely loud when the alarm goes off. This means six sirens, and a few extra car horns.

The trouble is that I don't want all of the sirens to sound when the car chirps on lock and unlock. My thinking was that I could buy a DEI 528T timer relay and then hook up the activation wire from the relay to the wire in my 4-wire sensor harness that gives ground when the sensor goes off. Then I'd keep the original siren on the relay that's triggered off the alarm's siren output, and run the extra sirens and the horns(which would have a flasher unit inline) off of the DEI timer relay.

Would this work for what I want to do?

Thanks,
Christian Coomer

does the alarm have siren confirmation adjustments.  I know on the Autopages, when we hook up the horns, we do arm/disarm with siren confirmation only.  Horn will only blow if it is full triggered.

I would also think you would want the output to the horns to be pulsed.  30sec. straight horn would suck.

I use an amperite C series solid state time delay relay 12DN0.1-60C - go to www.amperite.com or call 800-752-2329

I'll have to look into that. I have an Autopage RS-650 alarm, so I'll have a glance at the manual in a few minutes.

Hook the extra noise to a relay that is wired to the door pin, that way they will only go off if the door is opened.

I could do that, but then what happens if they simply pry my trunk open or break a window?

I had trouble finding that relay on their website. What exactly does it do?

You might have to call them.  The unit is a relay with an adjustable knob on the top.  The knob adjusts the timed delay between .1 and 60 seconds.  When 12 volts are applied it waits the set time delay before closing the circuit.  When the 12 volts is removed from the relay it opens the circuit and resets itself.  Use this unit to latch a standard 12 volt relay to power all your "extra noise"

Let's say you dial a 2 second delay then apply 12 volts.  The duration of your siren output of your alarm is 30 seconds:

alarm ttrips, siren sounds and starts timer-2 seconds later unit latches and connects standard relay and extra noise sounds-30 second duration passes and everything shuts off and resets.

-or-

Press remote button to arm/disarm alarm-siren chirps and timer starts-power applied to timer relay is less than 2 seconds so unit resets itself without latching and causing extra noise to sound.

I see how that works now. How much does that relay cost?

I plan to add the trunk pin switch into the door pin circuit. And I have a glass break sensor. But if they just break a window and just reach in through that and don't open the door, then if the sirens are on the door pin, then they won't go off.

u should have them all go. they only come on for a second anyway. try it first and it may not be that bad.
