I am about to start installing a Compustar 1WAM-AS in a 2004 Jeep Liberty... I've got the wiring charts and resistors, but there's one thing I am confused about. Will I need relays for the parking lights and the door locks, or do I wire in to existing relays? I have looked at 3 or 4 posts regarding this, and it wasn't totally clear.

yes you WILL need relays. For locks and lights...unless the unit has built in lock relays. Its always a better idea to use them. It isolates the alarm unit from the factory stuff, and makes sure the signal is a strong one.

If the unit has built in lock relays you will only need resistors for lock/unlock and no external relays. If it does not have built in lock relays, your best choice would be to add external relays. You can get away with diodes and different value resistors, but I wouldn't attempt this if your not experienced.

I always hit the park light wire (light GREEN/ orange) at the steering column with a straight negative (no 1k resistor) and have never had a problem. If you feel more comfortable then set your module for negative and put the 1k resistor inline.

I believe the Compustar CM3000 brain has built-in relays, but unless someone can tell me for certain, I'll wire up some externals... Thanks for the tip on the parking lights. Do you happen to know where I could pick up an alt/tach signal inside of the car, instead of at the ign. coils? In my Subaru I just picked up the tach near the gauge cluster.

Another couple of questions:

1. I hooked up the parking light output through a relay as shown at https://bulldogsecurity.com/New%20Wires/New%20Wires/Wires/images/JEEP%20LIBERTY%20PARKLIGHTS%202002.gif
but when I connect the wire from terminal 30 on the relay to the light GREEN/ orange wire for the parking lights, (with or without a 1K resistor) the parking lights and headlights come on, regardless of what state the brain is in (armed, unarmed.) Any ideas why this is happening?

2. Can I connect the negative trunk release output from the brain to the trunk release wire of the car, or should I wire up _another_ relay? (Never had an install that required so many relays!!)

Thanks in advance.

Update:

Nevermind on question #1... I figured it out.

Still hoping for an answer on #2.

Another update (just for future reference if any Liberty owners are installing):

You do not need a relay for the trunk pop. The 250 mA (-) output from the brain works just fine.
