Sounding Horn on Door Lock/Unlock

WOW, it seems like forever since I've been here... what a great site.

I was wondering if there is a way to wire my horn to "chirp" when the doors are locked or unlocked using the remote (Prostart). The park lights flash when locking and unlocking, but I thought it might be nice to have the horn chirp as well.

I thought I might be able to splice into the lock signal wires (-) coming from the module to operate the horn. This would probably require a relay (or 2) right? Would I also need a diode down stream from the splice to prevent a signal from the door lock buttons in the vehicle (door panels) from chirping the horn?

Or maybe this is a crazy idea - - but I thought I'd ask the experts.

Just jumper the lock and unlock alarm signal wires to a relay that triggers the horn on ground.The lock/unlock wires should be relayed from the alarm brain. Verify that first. Diodes are also involved to isolate wires..

Assuming your horn triggers on ground, Wire a relay with pole 86 to fused 12v, pole 85 to lock and unlock wires from alarm brain, pole 30 to body ground, and pole 87 to horn negative trigger.

If your horn triggers on 12v, wire 86 and pole 87 to fused 12v, pole 85 to lock and unlock wires, and pole 30 to horn positive trigger wire.

To prevent feedback from the factory locks, wire in diodes inline with alarm lock/unlock wires. Use a pair of regular 1004 1amp diode from radio shack. Like These Here The striped line on the diode should be facing away from the factory door lock wires, towards the alarm brain. This should allow your horn to honk with remote controlled lock and unlock and prevent the factory lock/unlock switch from sending a horn trigger signal when you are in the car.. Try it out..good luck and post back if you need anymore help..

Well, do your lights come on with remote start? If so then I wouldn't bother doing it, it will take some more stuff to do.

I don't understand what you're getting at here. Yes, the running lights do come on when the vehicle is started by remote. The park lights also flash. When unlocking and locking, the park lights also flash - once for lock, twice for unlock - or the other way around, I can't remember.

What I wanted was the horn to chirp with the door locks. I often notice this on other vehicles when people lock and unlock their doors from a distance. It's a nice feature, just in case you can't see your vehicle parklights when you activate the locks. It would just help me to know for sure that the signal went through.

Thanks for the direction - - pretty much what I was thinking.

I am guessing that if I wire the lock and unlock wires from the remote module into the same pole on a single relay, I would use additional diodes to prevent the signal (i.e. lock) from backtracking down the other wire (i.e. unlock) at the same time.

Conclusion:  I would need 4 diodes (2 for lock and 2 for unlock) and one relay. Unfortunately, I do not have a way to sketch it out, but I think this is right???
