Subject: Dead Remote? No Chirp or Alarm?

Heh guys:

I hang out all the time over in the "Car Audio" room but I really don't know *anything* at all about car alarms...

Soo.. my car alarm.. it is a "Python" and I have no idea what model but it was cheapest one to have installed for $250 about a year or so ago. It has developed two problems:

1)I got two remotes with the thing, but after about 6 months or so, the button stopped working on the first one.. like.. I'd have to stand there and hold it for like a minute.. 2.. 3... just to get the alarm to chirp on or off. Now the second remote is doing the exact same thing. Looking at the remote.. the design doesn't exactly say "replacable battery" so what gives? Is this like planned obselence or what? Can I just get new remotes?

2)The alarm now has decided it isn't going to chirp or.. you know "alarm" anymore. Like.. If i hit the button the lights still flash like the alarm acknoledges the button(after holding it for like a minute of course), but it doesn't chirp or anything. Not only that, if I set it and then open the door, the siren doesn't go off. I've had this problem intermittenly before but usually if I just hit the button again it chirps like normal. Ever since it started doing this the dash light also stays lit red.. it has never done that, it always flashed before. I checked the wiring coming off the siren and.. at least up till the firewall looks pretty allright...
Anyone know what gives?

The alarm is installed in a no option what-so-ever 93 Toyota Corolla.

Thanks.

Yea it was dealer installed...
I just *hate* dealing with this dealer... they are *impossible* ... I'm pretty good with amps and speakers so I thought I could take a whack myself eh?

Is it standard practice to replace remotes like there or am I gonna have to shell out like $20 a piece or what?

for the remotes you can buy your self, and program yourself. but if there a problem with the alarm they shold take car of it and should be in warannty.

Have you replace the batteries in the remotes.
if you dont want to deal with them, look for the alarm and get the model #.

Swamprat:

nice handle. i like that.

Buy and program myself? hehe. Uhh. Okay like I wouldn't even know where to start there.

Naww like I said, the first thing that occured to me was the battery of course.. cuz it began acting like any electronic thing that was running low on juice. But the remotes do not have any sort of accessible power supply. They are heat-sealed together and I'm guessing some puny 6 mo LithiumIon battery inside? No way to get at anything inside these remotes.. which is why I assumed the idea was to force me to buy new ones...?

About the goofy chirping issues, I guess I can try the dealer... oh well..
What about the remotes though? Are alarm remotes always like this or what?

what the FCC # on back of the remotes. the new ones are very thin compare to the square ones that are about 1/2" thick. and yes the thin ones that can open. to add a remote to your alarm is easier then you think. just matter of open a door turn igntion on press the valet button a # of times and push arm/lock on remote.
or just take the remote to the deal and buy abattery form there they should put it in free to ya.

make sure your antenna is plug in all the way both on antenna and the alarm itslef, unplug them both and plug them back in. that many expalne y th eremotes dont work all the tiem with the alarm.

cool..

to solve your first problem, the batteries in thoes remotes are replaceable. on the back there is a very tiny screw, unscrew it and pull open her up.  it should have a standard 12volt alkaline battery that most car audio places still carry, usually sell for 4 us dollars.

now to answer your second question, sounds like your car is in valet mode. to remove it out of valet mode, insert your key and turn it to the ign position, then remove the key. after that within like 10 sec or so, press your valet button once. this should work with most standards dei alarms with the exception of very old ones that used a switch instead of a button for their valet.

Heh sweet!

Yeah alright they aren't heat sealed together. No little screw, but if you pry really hard with your finger nails, the remote pops right apart. A little battery in there maybe the size of a nickel or two pressed together?

Where can I get one of these batteries again?

The FCC# is ezsdei474p

huh valet button? Is that my "Aux" button?

I have a lock/unlock symbol looking button, a red 'panic' button, and an 'aux' button on the remote. I've only ever used, to my knowledge, the lock/unlock button.

Just try the above mentioned procedure with the 'aux' button?

You have the python 460HP. the "aux" is a 2nd chanel, most the tiem is for to pop your trunk.
Is you LED on at all times. if so it is in valet mode. you valet button is a over ride button that usally under the dash some were. if you lost or if your remote is broken this is how "over ride" your alarm so your car can start your car.
to get into and out of valet mode.

turn igntion ON
trun igntion OFF
and press the valet button once withn 10 seconds.

you can aslo do this form the remote
press unlock/lock
press AUX
then press unlocl/lock again.
if the LEd is on steady it is in valet mode.
here is a copy of the manural

python 460hp
