I want to make my headlights automatically turn off when I turn off my truck. I was thinking about adding a relay using the first accessory on the ignition. How good or bad of an idea is this and would I need to add a fuse (and would it even work, lol)? Thanks.

Do you have a headlight delay that keeps them on for a certain amount of time after you shut off the truck? Or is this just something you want to add to make sure the lights can only be used while the truck is running? Also, what kind of truck is this?

It is a 1999 Mazda B2500 (basically a ford ranger). There is no delay or auto turnoff or anything right now. I just want to add something to keep the battery from getting run down if I leave the lights on. A delay would be nice if you know of an easy way to do that, but I would still be happy if they just went off when the key was off. Thanks for the help.

What would be a safer way of doing it?
