My buddy asked me if I could install a car alarm with remote start & keyless entry in his 97 cadillac seville. Now I have never done a alarm install, but I have done many car stereos & amp installs in the past. I would say that my electrical profeciancy is above average as I have had some schooling in it, but it is no where near the par of a guy who installs for a living. I have all the tools to do the job, so that isn't an issue. Here are my questions...
-Should I even attempt this?
-How difficult of a job will this be & about how long would it take?
-What alarm kit would you reccomend? (All he cares about is having 2 remotes & in the neighborhood of $125)
-Will I need any special componants such as relays?
-How much of the car must be torn apart? I figure the dash & trim panels...
-Any tips?
Thanks alot guys.
Update:
HE told me now that he just wants remote start & not the alarm. So the same questions apply, but he mentioned that his current keypad can open the doors & unlock the trunk. Will I be able to just get a remote start system & use the system thats already wired in for the keyless entry & trunk? Also, will he need 2 keypads (1 for keyless entry & 1 for remote start) or can I do it in 1 somehow?
you can get a keylesse entry with a remote start, no alarm in it, everything be contol form the remote. ( door locks/unlock, trunk, an dremote start) they do have just remote start also.
weather if need relays or not that all depends on the unit you buy.
weater you can do it or not, i cant say on that one, if you feel liek you can do it, go ahead, it you dotn then dont do it.
Caddy suck to work on. Their built like tanks and hard to pass wires through the firewall. Aside from that, a Compustar 1WAM-S is a great system, costs is minimal and the wiring is easy to understand.
