I've never attempted a remote start, but I have someone who wants me to install one on their 2005 subaru outback.  It already has keyless entry.  Anyone have any info about doing this?

I see in swamprat's post to use a fuel injector for the tach, anyone disagree with that?  Is the fuel injector a single wire? a pair?  any details on how to splice into that?

A wiring diagram should be is use to serve as reference ONLY! Don't relied on it to be 100% correct. The person typing up the infomation for you could have been sleeping or day dreaming on the job when they were inputing the information in. Get yourself a digital mulitmeter and set it to AC to get the reading for your tach signal. It will read between 1-8V and will move up and down when you press on the gas pedal. Some remote starter unit may require a higher voltage tach signal, which sometimes may require you to look else where. Below is another wiring diagram to help you with locating the tach signal.

And why not? If they don't need long range then why not use an add-on? Some people like using the original keyless remote.
