ok i have a solar charger and i wanted to some how hardwire it to my car. thing is i don't think it's supposed to be sending a charge to my battery while the car is im operation. i wanted to know if there is a way it can send energy to the battery while the car's ignition is completely off and when i turn it on it sends no enegry to the battery. and can u tell me what i need and a good place where i can get them. also is it ok if i leave the panel in the sun while the car is in operation. any help is appriciated. thanks.

use a relay to break the connection.

i dont think it will hurt anything while you are driving. ALL the VW cars at the dealer come in with these, and we ALL kept them hook up whlie we are driving around even when they are being test driving.

Is it a solar CHARGER, or a solar cell? If it's just a solar cell or panel, leave the thing plugged in, it will do ABSOLUTELY no harm at all. I am speaking from experience here... I've been using solar for YEARS, and if it is a manufactured panel charger, something like you would plug into your cigrette lighter, or if there is ANY kind of a box or enclosure containing it, it is diode protected... Don't lose any sleep over it, connect the thing, and use the "free" energy...

You won't need one to protect either the cell or the batery. Solar panels are self current limiting. You can short the output wires, and expse the panel to FULL sunlight, and nothing will happen to it. I would put one in the wire, simply to protect the wire, but if needs not be anything more than 5 amps. That'll be WAY plenty... Follow the same fuse placement rule as every other accessory - within 18 inches of the battery.
