Im new to all of this and this is my first attempt at anything electrical on my 2000 toyota tacoma. Thought it would be a good challenge, but i now found myself in desperate need of some help. This is where i stand. I am trying to install a directstart cs423 remote start and keyless entry on my tacoma with manual transmission.
After i thought all the wires were good and connected, i reconnected the battery cable and i get 4 slow parking light flashes which in the manual tells me that the system is activated/reset manual transmission. Other than that, nothing else responds. I tried to program the remote-nothing. I tried to go into tach programming-nothing. Things i should mention is that i only used the minimum required wires for the remote start and keyless entry: Hood pinswitch/doorpin wire, Tach wire, brake input wire, horn wire, door lock and unlock wires, mandatory handbrake input wire for manual transmission, 2nd ignition wire, parking light wire.
The ignition cluster was pretty straight forward: 2 power wires, primary ignition, ground, starter, and accessory.
Things i feel real shaky on: First, i dont have the mandatory handbrake wire connected to anything, i tried to connect it to the handbrake switch, but then when i reconnect the battery i dont get the 4 parking flashes. Does the 4 parking flashes tell me im doing something right since i tried some other combinations but nothing else produces the 4 flashes. Second, I connected the brake input wire to the GREEN / WHITE wire at the handbrake switch which i'm not too sure if that is correct. I initially had it connected to the GREEN / WHITE wire at the brake pedal switch but once again, it did not produce the 4 flashes when the battery was connected.
The other wires, im fairly certain are connected properly, but then again, i am a rookie at this. The diagram on this website for my tacoma was a great help. I cant even just get the keyless entry portion to work. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated and dont assume i know anything cuz i dont. Sorry for the long post. Thanks.
First off..... did you take the jumper out of the CPU for the manual transmission portion of the RS ?
Second...... you have to toggle the ignition ON-OFF 8 times ( FAST ----within 10 seconds or less ) for you to program any part of the CPU and remote controls )
Third ....... make sure you know what buttons are # 1 # 2 and # 3

Thanks for your reply Jeff. Ya, i did all three things and no luck. As for the ignition, should i be toggling from off to on or from acc to on, i guess it doesnt really matter since i tried both but just so i know what the right answer is. What are your thoughts about the parking flashes and the brake wiring as mentioned above? Thanks.
- Foot brake = GREEN wire on the CS423 ( this connection requires a (+) input )
- Hand Brake = WHITE/ PURPLE this wire requires a (-) input.
- Also make sure that the hood is grounding the hood pin wire otherwise the system will think that the hood is closed if there is no ground signal on the hood pin wire

Well, its a month later and ive made some significant progress. Everything seems to work but the problem now is i have to step down on the clutch to get the remote start to work, call me crazy but that kinda defeats the purpose. What happens is i do the remote ready sequence and then i go through the remote start sequence except i stay in the car and step on the clutch and it works. Then i realized that the instructions never had a wire to connect to the clutch to bypass it. So im hoping its an easy fix and the system advertises as a manual transmission remote starter so there has to be something to do with the clutch that im missing. Oh and yes, i already pulled the jumper from the system. thanks in advance.
Go to this post and read the lower portion of the thread:

This will explain the clutch bypass you will need to perform. BTW: If you purchased the CS423 within the last 3 months look at page 11 of the installation manual. It fully describes the wiring of the MANUAL remote start connection required for the system to operate on a manual transmission vehicle.
