i want to shave my tailgate handle and add two actuators that will lock and unlock the tailgate. wont be adding it to the alarm instead i will have a switch on the dash some where. has any body tried this and how did you go about mounting the actuators since space is vevy limited. i have a 88 silverado. thanks for the info.

can you not just use one normal door lock actuator to do the lock and unlock then a heavy duty solenoid to pop it

they make lock for certin trucks. i forget the sites ( im no use) but may do a search on google or something.

keeping cost down, i dont mind pulling down on the gate.

I've seen kits that are pretty inexpensive(about 30 bucks) thare called a "handle relocation kit". It basically just moves the handle to the inside (facing the bed) of the tailgate, still functions the same. I've seen them in Truckin and Street Truckin magazines.
