I want to connect my alarm to my camper shells lift up hatch in the back. I was thinkink of just putting a pin switch on it but there doesn't look like much room to drill a hole between the shell and the seal of the hatch. Does any one know what I should do?

use a magnetic reed switch, such as the ones used to protect windows in home security.

How about a Mercury Tilt Switch? Will that work?

A Mercury switch will work, but if a potential thief could see it, and knows what they are doing, they will know that a slight tilt would not set it off, as the only way to install it to be unaffected by parking on hills, etc. will be so that the door would have to swing up to at least a 45 degree angle or so.  A reed switch is the best way to go, and will work no matter on a hill or not, plus it will send the appropriate trigger the second the switch is separated more than a 1/2" or so.  If you're going to go through the trouble to wire something up, you might as well do it right.

If I do use a pin switch then is the one blue wire the installer left me all I need to connect to the pin switch. He said the one blue wire is all I need  to connect to the pin switch. Is that true?

I did a mercury switch on the handle...When the handle was turned enough to open, the alarm was triggered. I used one of the mercury switches which was black to blend it in with the inside handle.

Can I hook up the reed switch with only the one wire? I thought it takes two? I have only one blue wire that the installer said to hook to a pin switch?

I just talked to my friend who installed it and he said the wire is for a pin switch on a  trunk but can be used on the shell. He said its called a trigger for the trunk not door trigger. To me it sound like the same thing but then again I don't now much about alarms. He also said it was a negitive trigger wire.

Don't understand about "wire to the N/C  at rest on the switch"

So let me get this straight. Connect the negitive trigger wire to the N/C connection on the reed switch. Then the ground wire to which connection on the switch?  I make these connections without the second half of the switch?

I Understand about connecting the trigger wire to the NC connection on the switch only.  The ground wire is what confuses me.  Does the ground wire connect to the same as the trigger wire? When you say input do mean the NC connection? here is a picture of one? im lost!posted_image

When mounting the two halfs of the switch, how close do they have to be to work properly?
