hi,  my siren is malfunctioning.  it's sounding with a very reduced output.  indicative of a bad ground but isn't because i checked.

What,s really puzzling me, is the fact that i'm getting 12v on my VOM when the system is armed or disarmed.  I don't know if the following is unusual or not but the VOM shows  a reading of 2.31 and 2.41volts back and fourth when the system is triggered.

Lastly, if it helps, my siren's model # is 514C.  Also, my alarm is self-installed (did it about three years ago)and completely functional except, of course, the siren.

any info is greatly appreciated

Hi Slicey, There should be no voltage at all on the BROWN wire when the alarm is not sounding. Suspect internal fault in alarm ecu rather than siren.

To double check the siren you can cut the main power wire near the siren and jump it directly from the positive terminal of the battery. If it's nice and loud then it's like platham said.

PS-would have responded sooner but system hit w/ virus or something so i cleaned house and reinstalled OS.
