Hey guys I am soooo fustrated right now. I replaced my Viper 350HV with a Viper 791xv a while ago but have never been able to get the remote start to work. I have a 1990 Ford Bronco XLT.

I think I have every important wire connected but I still cant start my car with or without the key. I cut my RED / lt.Green starter wire and connected the PURPLE wire to the starter side (coming out of firewall) and the GREEN wire to the ignition side(key side).  When I make these connections, I am NOT able to start the car with my key and the remote start does not work. The starter engages but the engine does not crank or turn over. I double checked the connections on the relay pack and the red wires get 12v, orange is connected to ACC,  and pink is connected to ignition(i dont have a second ignition). I also checked the connection of the ribbon harness. My brother thinks that the relays for those two wires are not working or that some other wire on the main brain is not hooked up  or not not hooked up correctly.

Wires I HAVE connected:

H1

  • RED-12V
  • BROWN- siren
  • BLACK- ground
  • VIOLET- door trigger
  • WHITE- PARKING LIGHT

H3

  • BLACK/ WHITE- I grounded this wire
  • VIOLET/WHITE- I connected this to the tan / YELLOW wire at the coil.
  • BROWN- I connectedt his to the RED / green wire at the break pedal.
  • GREY- hood pin switch (I double checked and it works correctly)

DOOR LOCK HARNESS

LED, VALET SWITCH, ANTENNA, RIBBON HARNESS, SHCOK SENSOR, & GLASS BREAK SENSOR.

Wires I DO NOT have connected:

H1

  • ORANGE
  • WHITE/ BLUE
  • BLACK/ WHITE- i donno if this should be grounded or not.
  • GREEN
  • BLUE
  • RED / WHITE

H2- I did not connect any of these wires.

H3

  • BLUE/WHITE

4 PIN HARNESS ON RELAY PACK

  • BLUE, ORANGE, PURPLE, PINK- i did not connect any of these.

I studied my Haynes manual and wiring diagrams I found online and made sure I am using the right starter, ignition, ACC, and 12v wires. I also checked every connection I have made for stregnth and conductivity. I am probably missing a connection of one of the wires listed above.

If anyone could help me out and tell me what I am missing or what I did wrong. I would really appreciate it. I dont want to have to pay someone to fix this. I am sorry for this long post.

Thank you!

-Andy

Make Sure your starter wires are not backwards or hooked up for that matter. Green wire goes to the key and purple to the starter. GOod Luck

the car starts and runs fine when the starter wire is not cut in two. I am trying to get the remote start to work. yes I double checked that green goes to the key side and purple goes to the starter side. I also tried to switch these two wires but it didnt solve the problem.

Try switching out the starter disable relay with another relay. Please describe the way you have the starter erlay wired up as well in your next response.

The relays for the viper are built into one relay pack. Basically its only two wires for him to hook up.

The relay pack is a set of relays mounted onto a pc board. I cannot remove the relays from the board.

I ordered a new relay pack off of ebay today so I will try that one out when it arrives. Does anyone know of any other reasons why the remote start does not work?

at the relay pack, check the green wire and purple wire for continuity at rest. thats the simpliest way to check to see if the relay is workign properly.

the RS may not work due to improper tach or short crank timing, if volt-sense.

if it was me, ill switch over to voltsense and see if things will work out and program back to tach.

Ok your not going to like hearing this after all the time you've spent troubleshooting, but your problem is pretty simple. If your cutting the RED / Lt. Green wire then your car isn't going to ever start. The RED / Lt. Green wire according to every wiring chart I have is the Ignition wire. This would explain why you can't keep it running even with the key when you wire the starter kill up to it. The starter wire is RED / Lt. Blue. Do you have anything hooked to the RED / Lt. Blue wire...like perhaps the Ignition output from the remote starter? If so then when you engage the remote starter you would probably be hearing the starter continually crank over for about 6 seconds. Good luck

iskidoo, I should have said RED / lt. Blue. Not Lt. Green. I typed in the wrong wire color. yes, the starter wire is the RED / lt. blue and that is the wire that I cut to attach to the green and purple wires coming out of the relay pack.

I am going to mess around with this alarm some more tomorrow and when the new relay pack arrives, I will see if that works.

it seems like youre working on this blindly w/o a DMM. if you wont have one, invest in one and learn how to diagnose problems.

i own a couple of multimeters and know how to use them. I just dont know much about relays and this is my first remote start alarm install.

put your meter across the ignition output of the brain. try remote starting and make sure your getting your +12 volts. If your ignition is not getting powered during the start sequence then it will not run. Leave the vehicle's starter wire uncut and attach just the purple wire to it. this should allow the remote starter to activate the starter and the key should still work.
