well im back...this is steve with the crimestopper 2016fm...and the 2005 chevy aveo......i installed the alarm/remote start this weekend...everything went smoothly...i found every wire i needed to in my car....with the exception of the tach wire..because i was going to use the tach finder feature....anyways.......my alarm will not program at all......it will not recognize the transmitters....and it will not go into the programming mode with the valet button....i checked all my wires, fuses everywhere (they are good)...power is flowing thru every wire that should be.....all that happens when you press anykey on the transmitter.....it displays a little flag/antenna icon......has anyone done any of these crimestoppers......any help would be appreciated...

Is it grounded properly. I have seen that problem alot.. On most Crimestoppers if the hood pin is not a real good ground the unit will not go into program mode... Just a thought.....

well i dont have a hood pin installed i opted to go with the trunk for the trigger....but it says to ground the blue wire before putting it in programming mode...so i unconnected it from the trunk and just grounded it....(should i have left connected to the trunk pin).....anyway yea its grounded good...i tested all the grounds and power wires...i mean the brain is getting power...so i dont know if the brain is bad or what....my led doesnt even come on at all

Well you should get the led.... And there is 12volts right at the box.. I found on a crimestopper hardness that plugs into the box, that the spade connector in the plastic plug was screwed up.. if you check these..then I would assume it would be a defective unit.... Where did you get it??

Go ahead and email Crimestopper and try to get a return authorization number from them. Make sure you get your serial number off from the brain box and include that with the email.. you might also want to email the seller on ebay and ask about it being defective.. Good luck

go back on ebay, give the seller negative feedback, and buy a dei unit. prolem solved.

I have a Crimestopper in one of my cars and when I first installed it it worked great. Then one day it quit working and would not go into program mode and only respond to the receivers every one out of five or so times. I unhooked the brain and checked the cables, also did some rewiring of various relays for other features, and reinstalled. Now it worked and everything was back to normal.

Now I know this doesn't help you at all, but I can say that this thing has been a little screwy more than once, and I think that maybe that is just part of the unit. If I was to install another one, it would probably not be a Crimestopper.

ok well i contacted crimestopper and they said the remotes should be preprogrammed and dont require programming...but the manual says they have to be programmed....has someone done a CS2016FM.......now just to clarify im not talking about programming the 20 different feature codes to the remotes.....im talking about programming so the brain will recognize the remotes.....any feedback on that thx.......if they really are preprogrammed my seller from ebay said they would swap the brain and the remotes for me

HAHAH pre-programed from crime stopper. We are an authorised crime stopper dealer and I have done SEVERAL remote starters and alarm systems almost allways one if not both of the transmitters are not programmed. Try tech support at 1-800-998-6880  EXT 210.

well someone at crimestopper doesnt know what they are talking about.....because i talked with tech support and they told me they were preprogrammed...but thats not the problem because i have no problem with programming them myself...but the brain wont go into programming mode...so i think i might still swap out from my seller.....and if that doesnt work well i guess ill just shell out some more money for a 791xv

Sorry I'm coming to this so late, I was looking for something else and saw CS 2016 and thought I'd have a look.

I had the same exact problem, and I've installed six of these things. My mistake was the cable from the brain to the antenna adaptor. You MUST have the cable ends color coded to the plugs they go into--if you got the white cable end in the black plug, take it out and swap the ends of the cable. When I did this, problem solved. Hope this might help you.

Any luck getting your system to program?? I just purchased and installed a Crimestopper RS-999 and it is doing the same thing! Will not go into program mode for the remotes, but it will go into program mode for the system, and of cource without programing the remotes it will not do anything, what a bummer after all of that work, I guess i will contact CS.

Anymore info

Thanks Brian

That last one doesn't make sense. You mean when you open the hood, turn the ign to run and press your program button 5x it will enter programming mode? But when you do the same thing and press the program button 4x it won't give you 4 light flashes? That's really odd.

If it will give you 4 light flashes did you make sure you press the lock AND unlock buttons at the same time? The RS999 is different from the RS900. You have to press both or it won't accept the remote--even the one way remotes.

correct! I can push it 5 times and it will enter that mode but if i push it 4 times it does NOTHING!!  I have no ideas

The only other thing I can think of is something I mentioned earlier--the 3 conductor wire between the alarm brain and the black box where your antenna wire plugs in--do the ends match colors? The color of the plug and the color of the receptacle have to match or else the alarm brain won't know the antenna is attached. Possibly its programmed not to allow transceiver programming until the antenna is properly hooked up.

If you have that right you'd better search this site for the best person to contact at Crimestopper--you're probably gonna need a R.A. #.

Install hood pin switch. Most models it is required for getting into programming mode. Atleast ground the wire when you are programming, if you decide not to install the hood pin.

I never would have.

I never install a remote start without tapping an existing hood pin switch (if it's a grounding, normally closed switch--curse you Ford and your normally open switch in the last 2003 explorer I did) or installing a separate one.

But with crimestopper models I doubt that this is the problem. You have to open the hood and turn the key forward to run to get into programming mode--for transmitters and for options. I haven't tried otherwise, but I can't imagine it would go into programming mode for a transmitter (4 pushes on programming button) but not for options (5 pushes on programming button).

We'll Still no luck! I am getting sick of this thing. Still same exact problem and the person I purchased this from on ebay traded out the main modual for me. Still same problem, will not go into remote program mode! But it will go into the function program mode (5 flashes)  Yes I have the hood pin grounded. I know all of the wires are correct, I am a tech at a large Chevrolet dealership I have done auto repair for several years so I'm sure I know what I am doing (i think haha) I have the modual for the antenna hooked into the side of the main modual.  I dont understand why it wont see the remotes??  Any Ideas?
I think it is time to try and get my money back and try a different brand.

It's likely not the brain.

It's not likely BOTH remotes are bad.

It is probably programmed not to recognize remote programming unless the antenna circuit is properly hooked up since both brains respond the same way.

If you could try another antenna module and antenna, the problem--by process of elimination--must lie there.

I've done CS2015's, 2016's, 2012's 2014's and 999TW1's. This setup really does work--it's not an inherantly defective design. You've got to have a bad antenna component or reversed antenna wire.

OK, I had a weird one with crimestopper today,I have been installing these units for years and NEVER had a defective brain yet.  So, I'm doing an install on a 04 Avalon, and I'm up to learning the tach.  So, i push the button 5 times, then once.Everything looks ok (I know i have the right tach) when I press the remote to learn, I got nothing.  There was no response from the unit. So I exit the tach mode and checked to make sure the remotes work, you know try to lock and unlock the doors. Well that worked fine.  So, I remember reading this post, so I tried to learn the remotes over again, and nothing.  The brain wasn't listening to the remotes when in programming mode.  I thought to myself, man I have a bad brain like this guy does, let me switch out the brain. I happened to have another one in my car.  Well, low and behold, I had the same problem.  I know my wiring was correct I metered every wire.  Well, long story short- I tagged the wrong side of the brake wire.  Somehow in my rush to get the car done, I spliced the purple wire of the remote starter(brake) into the Constant 12 volt side of the brake, not the output side.  When I moved the purple wire to the proper brake wire the unit worked PERFECT. So, unplug your harness from the remote starter, take your meter and verify that your purple wire does not have a constant 12 volt going to it.

Hope this solves your problem, It sure stumped me for a little while.

Frank
