longer start time

I installed a  remote starter last week, it works great !!!!!!!! Now the weather is cold and it doesn't start on the first try, i selected longer start time on the dip switches but it is still too quick. is there anything i could do to hold the starter in longer?

What model starter and what car?  Does it start on the second try?

commando ez2200 , the car is a 97 mustang. and it starts on the second try every time

I knew it was either the EZ2200 or the model I have which is the FM-5000.  They are made by the same manufacturer.  I work directly with the guys who run www.commandocaralarms.com and I have installed more EZ2200's  then I can remember.  I never had a customer complain about the problem you are having, but the exact same thing happens with mine.  i am actually going to put in a completely different type of system from  a different manufacturer that commando just recently got in.  I believe it is made by the same manufacturer that makes the Autopage RS-750LCD that you may have heard about.  Commando calls it the FM-760.  And the new RS-560's are the same style just without the FM-two-way remote and not as good of range.  Anyway, to get back to the problem, I know that the EZ2200 is just not right for my car because when it is really cold, it will not start my car on the first try, and on the second try it increases crank time automatically and my car fires up like my grandma was starting by just holding the key in the crank position for three seconds after it has started.  It sounds terrible and probably is for my car.  I have a 97 old 88 and that is just how my car is.  I tested my car one cold morning with my key to see how long the starter needed to be engaged to start, and what I found was that when it was extremely cold, my car would not even start with the key no matter how long I held the starter on. I held it for 8 seconds and nothing, so I waited 10 seconds and tried again and it fired up before i could even cout to 1.  And it does this everytime I start my car when it is cold. So what I really need is for the cranktime to decrease on the second try, or get a starter unit that senses the tach better like I am doing.  If your car starts fine on the second try, and doesn't rev the engine too high like it does mine you should be fine.  Otherwise i would consider getting a different unit like the RS-560. They are an alarm/starter combo, but you dont need to hook up the alarm if you dont want to.  They have driver priority unlock and dual polarity keyless entry outputs, and the transmitters are much nicer.
