Hey everyone, I purchased a Viper 690xv and have read lots of topics on this installation. first of all my car is a 1998 ford contour svt and i am just wondering for the door lock part of the alarm, if i need the relays or not?...also is this install possible without taking it anywhere to b professionally done, I hav installed other alarms but not as advanced as this one, thanks in advance

The 690xv is both POSITIVE & NEGATIVE Pulse Door Lock......DEI suggests that U use Relays in conjunction with your Door Locks.  Some installers hook direct...........

Power LockWHITE/ GREEN      ( +  )DRIVER KICK
Power UnlockYELLOW /GREEN    ( + )PANEL
Positive Pulse Door Locks

PS: What are the negatives to hooking directly to the wire?...I have read both good and bad things about this, but dont know which to do. the brain unit sends out 200ma..is that enough to power the factory car relays?...again its a 1998 ford contour svt

The worst thing will be that it will not supply enough current to unlock or lock the doors consistently. If your in there wiring things up already, it will take you less time to wire in relays now, then have to take everything apart the second time. 200ma is enough to trigger a SPDT relay. Wire up like this https://www.velocitymotorsport.com/images/install_notes/N2P.jpg

Ok thanks a lot I will definitely put the relays in as long as the wiring is all there anyways. Any other relays that i would need anywhere?...I think thats it.

If you wanted to use the trunk release you would need a relay for that too.

wow it must b way the **** up there....will it be behind the passenger kick panel no matter what? or does the car hav to hav factory keyless for it to be there?...i pulled the switch on the passenger door and the wire are solid yellow and solid white instead of YELLOW /GREEN and WHITE/ black. On the drivers side, are the wires way up there wrapped? or are they visible at all? i cant see anything with the right colors

It's not UNCOMMON for Ford to change Colors thru the harness

Alright i found the wires finally...yea they were hidden pretty well up there. lol....now i hav looked at getting the dei 451m lock relay, but hav read that its only for negative door locks? is this tru? my locks just require a positive, so the bottom line question is, do i need a relay?
