alrighty so im installing a Viper 771xv two remote start alarm keyless entry system. The tuck is stock basic so it has no electric door locks. I have two actuators for the doors but when I pulled the door panels off to check for clearance I noticed that they are rod type door locks as apposed to older metal latch rode style. the actuators I have are only made to hook up with the metal rods. I don't want to cut into the rod because it' wouldn't be pirtty so I was wondering if anyone had some info on how to install them with out cutting into the rods. any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks

As far as I know you have to cut into the cable and use an aftermarket set of actuators designed for them.

I am about to do a 4 door setup on my brothers's new 2005 Pontiac Vibe and haven't found anyone that sells just the brackets designed for the cable style locks. I have a dozen normal actuators and they run about 5 bucks a piece so i dread having to pay over a hundered dollars for a kit that contains a few brackets and clips.

Any of you other installers have a source for the brackets or a decent price on kits that contain them?

Dont actuators usually come with brackets? Anyways, the brackets I use I usually cut them short leaving enough space to still use the slots or brackets to mount the whole actuator.

Whenever I install actuators in a Tacoma, I mount the actuator to the right of the door handle. Be careful though, You might want to put some tape on the speaker wire things, just in case the actuator rod happens to touch both at the same time. Sp yeah, the actuator would go to the right of the door handle, and the rod would go into the lock switch itself. Your going to have to cut a piece of the door handle if you use my method. Then drill a hole into the switch, and mount the actuator accordingly. I have pics that might help (Not from a Tacoma, but its the same idea) so if you want them, email me. reppinthe510area@aol.com

Yeap I use that same method too.the factory cable attaches to the door lock switch like the cable on the the hood release. you drill a small hole on the lock switch right next to were the factory cable attaches itself so you could fit the actuator rod, and just space out the actuator to the left of the door handle and your good to go.
