I just use a generic universal brand that can attach to any alarm system and the best place I find to mount it in is under the hand brake panel in the center of the vehicle.

If I am getting a DEI alarm (Viper 790xv), would you reccomend getting the DEI sensors or generic ones? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Thanks.

This is on position.. Make sure to keep it out of the sun. The generic one I hae is very sensitive to heat. You might wanna make sure to install it somewhere where you can adjust it fairly easy since it reacts different in the summer then in the cooler months. Anybody know if this the case with all or shoud I have dumped the generic? Sorry, my current model is mounted inside the armrest of center console in my blazer..

I have not had any problems with any of the ones that i've installed concerning heat. If the unit is in the sun, chances are you didn't do a good job on the installation . The advantage of a universal type sensor over the DEI version is the price. Otherwise, there's nothing else other than the name on the module. ------------- Jeff

Hmm thanks.........so then would you personally reccomend using the universal sensors over the DEI ones? I mean I want a high qaulity security system and last time I skimped out and went the cheap way..........got a cheap 2 way lcd alarm system off of ebay and had it installed by some guy for $60, and the security basically sucks. So this time I want to do it right. I am getting a Viper 790xv installed hidden well, and going to add stuff like backup batt, internal battery powered sirens, and glass, perimeter, motion/tilt, sensors, and possibly window, sunroof, and voice modules. I would like to save money but do not want to compromise security or reliability.......and also do not want false alarms. So what would you reccomend for me for universal or DEI sensors? Also any other suggestions? Would you reccomend all of the items that I listed? Thanks.

If comprimise is not an option, then go for the DEI and then you will be happier in the end, otherwise you will end up with another situation like you had and then you'll end up blaming me .( LOL ) If you buy the DEI version and it doesn't meet your expectations, then you can always return it and get the universal type. Remeber that you get what you pay for, but once in a blue moon you also get a good & reliable product for half the price. Don't get too heated over a bad product because 90 % of bad alarms are because they had bad installations . As far as other sensors, what I would do is also install a glass breakage sensor for those guys using ceramics to break glass, this way you have your car covered for impact, radar and glass breakage. ** An impact sensor will not detect someone who uses ceramics to break the windows , not enough impact. ** ------------- Jeff

LOL, nice icons. Yeah, I guess I'll just spend the money and get the DEI ones to be safe and not have to worry as much. I was planning on getting the glass break sensor, motion/tilt sensor, and also perimeter sensor. I was wondering if you had any more input on these? Is the perimeter/radar sensor unnecessary and a pain? I heard it just causes annoyance to other people (who may possibly damage your car), and alot of false alarms.................

Just make suer that the sensor range is not 3 feet outside the vehicle. Set it up right and it will work great. Set it up wrong and you get complaints.

I always set mine up to only go off when somebody sits in the seats. I figure that they need to get that far before they can grab the deck or start the car, and you avoid false alarms.

Or you could just set it to when they are physically touching the car right? Becuase I heard the range was only adjustable from 3 feet from car to 3 inches from car...........that seemed too sensitive to me too.....if someone just happened to walk by it could go off. The perfect thing I would want is for it to be set up to go off only if someone is touching the car with enough pressure to make it seem suspicious........is this possible? If this thing is set up right, do you guys reccomend it? Any other suggestions/tips/advice Any idea where I can get it for a good price? Thanks.
