I will be installing an Omega add on remote starter into a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Limited.  I have the factory wiring manuals and have done allot of research on this application.   I have good and successful mobile and marine electronic installation experience as a hobbyist but have never dealt with an immobilizer system.

I am plannig to use a universal bypass kit.

My questions are:

1. Will this vehicle's computer accept 2 transponder keys when the remote starter is activiated and when the ignition key is inserted or should I turn off the bypass with the 'key inserted' switch to be safe?  I've read that some systems will not funtion with 2 transponder inputs.

2. The factory immobilizer antenna and wiring is very accessible under the cowl, can I piggy back the universal bypass antenna wire to the factory antenna?

Basically - what are the professional tips and risks on this type of intstall?

  • The bypass kit will have a wire called " ground out when running " and this will activate the bypass module, only when remote started via the remote control. The wire will loose ground when the car takes over from the remote start sequence so there is never two codes being transmited at the same time

  • You will need to wrap the supplied wire ring around the ignition column as this is the procedure required for those universal bypass modules.
