It was recommended to me to get a 1N4007 diode to isolate my backup but all I could easily get was a 1N5400. It's rated at 3A and 50V, but I have no idea what kind of current will flow to the backup after it's been discharging for 3-4 days. If I solder two of them in parallel, will that handle 6A?

Thanks in advance,

Ken

you mean series and yes i would probably feel safe with the one but two will do the job too. lol

Actually in parallel it would handle 6 amps.  In series it would still take only 3 amps.

Series-1, Parallel-1. The game is tied. lol

Series - add, Parallel - Subtract (Series wins!)-----

With resistors and coils yes, But diodes and capacitors its reversed. if you have 2 3-amp diodes in series, the first one is gonna blow after it sees 3 amps, and the current wont make it to the second one. in parallel each diode will allow 3 amps to flow, for a total of 6 amps.
