I have a 2004.5 Dodge Ram 3500 with a cummins diesel and am trying to find out what the direct fax document 1091 is and says in regards to the wait to start light. Can someone help me with this information please. i am installing a Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System

Does this mean I am required to use the relay or can i make the direct connection? or is it an alternative method? I have always made a direct connection on my other diesels.

Recent diesels use a data signal that gets sent to the instrument cluster. No more (-) signal like in the past. 1091 shows how a timer can be wired in and set to hold (-) on the wait-to-start input on the remote start for a preset amount of time.

The Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System says it has a wait to start function. can you tell me if the relay is needed? it also has the turbo timer cool down function. are you familiar with this unit and have you ever installed it on a diesel?

i have installed that unit alot in diesels.....the car has no wait to start wire that will work with the 791xv.......u have to get a pulse timer relay.....also do u have a turbo?

On the small red harness, there is a grey/black stripe that is the wait to start wire. Putting ground to this wire will, when the start sequence begins, not allow crank until the ground is removed. Ignition powers up, accessory powers up, and it waits. Ground goes away, it cranks. The easiest way to make it wait (no accessable wait to start signal that is remotely usable) is to use a 611T timer module, wired to start counting when it gets a -ve signal (ground when running works well for this), and outputting a latched ground output during the time run. When the set amount of tme has gone by (10-15sec usually), the 611T will shut down, removing the ground from the 791 XV's wait to start wire, and the truck cranks.
As far as the "turbo" timer (BTW redpeppers.... all diesels in anything built after 1995 or so have turbos on them....). When you program the 791xv, in Menu 3 (starter settings) there is a step for "short run timer" that can be programmed for 1,3,5, or 10 min. 5min is more than enough.... unless you just drove at 130MPH for 3 hours straight, came to a screeching halt, and had to shut the truck off. You're probably running a decent synth oil in there anyways (Mobil Devlac1 is a good choice...), so coking on the turbo bearings is almost zilch (bad problem with non-synth and semi synth oils... not so much with the full synth oils that are out there now). To activate the "turbo timer": Aux+ *.
