Hey all,

Like the title says, im installing a V91XV with dual stage and audio sensors on a 1999 Dodge Dakota R/T 5.9. Im new to alarms but ive done plenty of stereos and whatnot.

Anyway, i have some basic questions, that ive searched for and have a pretty good idea about but would like them clarified.

H1/3 - Not used in my case, correct?

H2/1 - Factory disarm - This goes to relay, then goes to the disarm but H2/2 goes to the same wire? Can someone clarify that for me?

Door Lock Harness - From what i read i have to "five wire" my door locks. Can someone clarify that please? Do i set up two relays like it shows on the diagrams on this site?

Heavy Guage inline- I cut the starter wire and the green goes to the key side and purple to the starter side, correct?

3,6, 8 - Are these constant 12v or switched?

I think thats it for now, thanks guys.

Hey, im installing a 971vx on my 99 dakota r/t 5.9

I have everything setup and it looks like it works except the door locks. from what i have read i need to "5 wire" the locks. I wired it according to this diagram -

Now whenever i plug the 12v line into a 12v source i automatically blow the fuse. What could i be doing wrong here?

Thanks guys

u only have to five wire the unlock...........wire 85 (positive unlock wire from brain) 86 (ground) 87 (12volt constant) 87a (pink/purple wire into car) 30 (pink/purple to unlock motor) that is right u have to cut the wire......try the switch first before unlocking.....the lock wire is postive signal....no 5wire

I have the door panel off. Going to the lock motor are 5 wires (maybe 4, dont remember) 1 is pink/black, one is ORANGE / black the rest are black. I probed the pink/purple one with my multimeter and hit the unlock, jumped to 12. Hit lock it goes to like .6. Im pretty sure thats right. I then cut that in half. I hooked up the swith and motor side how you described. When i go to hook up the 12v the fuse instantly blows (without trying to lock or unlock). Any ideas?

when that fuse blows the factory switch along with the dome light do not work. Is that normal?

Door Lock fuse is blowing. I got the 12v constant from the harness in the door panel. (could this be causing the problem???)

Wired the relay just like you said

85 is +unlock from brain

86 is ground

87 is the constant 12v

87a switch side lock motor wire

30 is motor side motor wire.

As soon as i touch the 12v wire the door lock fuse pops.

CHECK YOUR RELAY / S

Are you using SPDT Relays??  ( Single Pole Double Throw )  Where did you get them?

Im pretty sure. They're bosch from kragen. Is there any other relays with all the same connections and look the same that arent SPDT relays?

Well this has 5 contacts. doesnt that make it a spdt?
Anyhow, i double checked and they ARE SPDT relays for sure.

TO clarify, im using 1 relay, wired how i wrote above. Any ideas??

from what the other guy helping me out said i only have to "5 wire" the unlock. I assumed that meant that i only use one relay.

When i tried with two it did the same thing.

So am i supposed to be using a two relay setup? this is a 1999 dodge dakota r/t 5.9.

Sorry...I noticed the 99 Dakota..

2 SPDT RELAYS:

Relay 1
 Cut Orange Violet in Half:

LOCK:
PIN 87 =  12 Volts ( + ) Constant
PIN 87a =  wire from Door Lock Switch
PIN 30 =  wire from Door Lock Actuator
PIN 85 = Negative Lock Output from Alarm
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )

Relay 2
Cut Pink/Violet wire in half

UNLOCK:
PIN 87 =12 Volts ( + ) Constant
PIN 87a = wire from Door Lock Switch
PIN 30 =   wire from Door Lock Actuator
PIN 85 = Negative UNLock Output Alarm
PIN 86 = Constant 12 volt ( + )

Self Check:
With NOTHING hooked to Relay:
Meter PIN 30 & 87a  should be closed....
Meter PIN 30 & 87 should be Open

If NOT...WRONG RELAY / S

direct wire tells me u only have five wire the unlock only and not the lock......also u only have to do the 5wire on the ones with factory keyless.

try get 12volts from the batt. or the ignition harness.....be sure to fuse that wire also.....try this also.....wire up everything except for pin 87.....then try the factory switch.....if it works then u have it wired properly, unless u have the motor side of the wire u cut and the switch side of the wire backwards.  let me know what results u get.

yah, im officially an idiot. I checked the diagram i got with the relays. Turns out of course they are not SPDT. the audio shop i bought them from told me they were. I checked the drawing and it has both 87 and 87a the same. Anyway, went back there and got the right ones. Now i did that and only the drivers side locks/unlocks, this is my personal car and i need it in the next few days so its not a big deal but what wires would i have to tap for both the drivers and passager to open? the chart says light green and orange in the drivers kick. I see like 3939424209 of those wires and ive tried to test them all and none seem to work. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help guys.

this is the info i have......like i said....u should only need one relay and not 2......relay only needed on the unlock....

Power Lock org/pur or grn/blk   +  drivers kick panel
Power Unlock pink/purple   +  drivers kick panel
Notes: Vehicles with keyless entry, have to 5 wire the unlock wire.
