I just finished installing a Prestige aps996a on a 97 chevy Z71. I've only installed three prestige remote start/alarms before (all aps785, so I have limited experince and none with the 996. Thanks to the great information availible on this site all previous installs have gone perfect and are still working fine.

Now to the issue. I've got everything installed and all functions work properly............ that is untill the remote start is activated. When I start the truck from either remote, it starts and runs just like you would expect; however, the remotes will not work properly. The brain does not seem to recieve the transmition?? Occasionally, it will unlock, or lock if the respective buttons are held down for 3-10 seconds, but even this seems random. The chances of turning off the truck from the remote are even less, since you have to hold the button down for a few seconds, let it go and hold it down again at just the right time.

Long story short It only acts up while started under remote start. Press the brake to kill the engine and all goes back to normal.

I guess something in the truck could be choking the signal while the truck is started, but I find this unlikely.

My guess is that either the brain or antenna is faulty.

I don't have another brain around to test it with, so before I buy another one, I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this problem.

I would say go back tot he place that you bought it from for warranty. They should be able to supply you with either a new antenna or remote control. The first thing I would do is try a new remote control seeing that this is the easiest part of the 3 to replace. Next checnge the antenna and then the CPU.

If that happens with the 2 way and the 1 way remote, I would say it's your antenna.
