Hello folks,
I'm just about finishing up a remote start install on a 1995 Mercury VIllager (aka Nissan Quest). I'm looking for a tach wire that's supposed to be located at the "Engine Control Module" (ECM). I think I've found the wire, but I'm not sure if it's the one (colour matches - green w/ white). I was gonna give it a testing, but it's in a real tigh spot (under the radio bunched up with a whack of other wires) - so I thought I'd check with the experts first. Where would the ECM be found on a car like this? Would I also be able to find this wire somewhere under the hood (possibly a better location than the potential one I have now) - near the plugs possibly?
I'm also looking for the ACCESSORY /HEATER Blower 1 wire which by my diagram (from bulldogsecurity.com) says grey w/ yellow in the ign harness - but there's no such wire there. I'm thinking it's brown but not sure.
I'm a little skeptical about the diagram I got from there it already misrepresented the Ignition1 wire.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Well, here's the diagram from 12volt for the '95 Villager. 1995 Mercury Villager Alarm Information Seems the wiring is a bit different from the one you have. The best way is to always check with a Digital MultiMeter.
In this diagram, it says you can grab the tach signal at the coil. I've gotten the tach wire (in other cars) from the driver's kick panel, and also gone through the firewall right up to the distributor cap, and the tach wire is there too (where all the spark plug wires go to).
Just some ideas.
cpgoose,
Thanks very much for the wiring diagram! It turns out to have a couple of differences from mine (last time I use diagrams form bulldog security).
I'll look for the tach wire at the coil (around the distributor cap).
One thing though, the digram says the following for the starter wire:
Starter --> Red --> Cold start wire is RED / Green at the Ignition Switch Harness.
I've got my module (starter output) wired up to the red wire. Should it be attched to the RED / Green wire? I've never really heard of a "Cold Start Wire".
Thanks again.
No problem. Sorry, though, but I've never heard of cold start either. I'm sure someone else here has, and hopefully they'll respond. I guess if you use the red wire, and you have problems, then you should probably change something (obviously....hmmm, that wasn't much help
).
For the tach wire, you can find it by the coil like you said. On my car, it's like popping out of the distributor cap, so it's really easy to see. I was able to find the wire in a bundle of wires, though, under the dash on the driver's side just below (and to the left) of the steering wheel. I tested the wire with a DMM, and it was the right wire for tach, so I used that. It was much easier to get to that wire, then running it through all the way to the coil. (Although I had to do that on another car, so it's not too bad).
Good luck....write back if you have more questions.....hopefully someone can answer the cold start part. You could probably even call bulldog at 800-878-8007 and ask them, although they'll ask you what model of bulldog remote starter do you have ;-)
