Yesterday, a friend and I attempted to install a CompuStar 2WSS-AS (Alarm + Remote Start) into my 1991 Nissan 240SX SE with Manual Transmission. My 240SX has an sr20DET (Turbo'd) motor, so I have a different ECU, a turbo timer, a boost controller, and an S-AFC (modifies air/fuel ratio). The wiring differences between my car and a normal 240SX are only in the engine bay, and by the ECU. Pretty much everything under the dash is stock, so standard wiring diagrams have proven to be accurate.
Anyway, we wanted to first get the alarm and door lock/unlock before messing with the remote start. Looking at the diagram below (which I know is for a suburban, but I just copy and pasted that from a different post. The first 3 columns are the important ones), we wired the first set of 8 pins.
On the second set, we wired Pin #1, but we didn't know where to connect Pin #2 (Status). The description says that it comes on one second before ignition on and turns off one second after ignition off, but that didn't help much. I don't need Pins #3 & #4, and Pin #5, I haven't wired, but I will. I figured I didn't need that for the alarm to work.
For the 3rd set, we wired Pins 1,3,5,6,9. I didn't install the included Hood Pin sensor yet, so we'll do Pin 2 later. We couldn't find the trunk input near the dash, so we'll have to run a wire to the trunk for Pin 4. I don't have a diesel so Pins 7 & 8 were ignored.
4th set: I think we only wired Pins 4-6 (We had to use an extra relay, because my Nissan uses a single wire lock/unlock system.)
5th set: Pins 1,2,4.

Questions:
1) Where does the Status Pin go?
2) Is the LED supposed to be lit constantly? When we first wired it, it was always on, but by the time we stopped, it would only flash when I connect/disconnect the car's battery.
3) When we did the on/off 5 times thing to put the computer in "Learning Mode" nothing ever happened. No relay clicking sound. And, after putting the battery in the remote, it would be silent for about 15 sec, and then emit 3 (not 2 like the instructions) beeps. Remote still doesn't work.
4) Will we were zip tying some wires together so I could actually drive home, the alarm brain suddenly made several clicking sounds completely out of the blue. Does someone have any idea that would happen?
5) Can anyone give some pointers on what to do w/ the included 2 relays that I'm supposed to used for the starter and second starter? It looked pretty confusing.
I'd appreciate any help you could give w/ respect to these questions. If you need clarification, please let me know.
Thanks,
Ruban
Hi I'm the guy with the Suburban, I haven't installed my alarm yet but will be in the next week or two, I was just taking my time figuring out all the conenctions before I dove in, from what I can tell here is what I came up with, Don't take this as gospel
You should connect both 12V constants as they power other relays in the alarm
1) Status would plug into a bypass kit like the one I need for my truck
2) From what I can tell the LED is supposed to flash, you probably have the wiring error.
3)The on/off thing, won't work unless you have the ignition/starter wires connected, which you don't have hooked up yet.
4) The relays in the alarm are probably making the clicking noises, Don't know what happened, maybe because of both 12v constants not being hooked up.
5) The Relay with the Yellow and Yellow/Blk wire needs to be connected to the starter yellow to starter side yellow/blk to key side. If you don't have these connected then #3 will not work. The other relay is for accessory
Again, I haven't installed this yet so try to get info from other sources before you attempt the above.
Thanks for info nixapatfan!
Can anyone else add to his post?
Another question: What's the purpose of a 2nd starter?
Also, do I need a switch to trick the car into thinking the clutch pedal is depressed for the remote start? I believe this alarm system claims it's made for Manual Transmissions, so I don't think I need it. So is there anything else I need to due to the clutch pedal?
The second starter is for most Nissan's that have a cold start wire. Get a wiring diagram for your car if you don't already have one and check it for a cold start wire... I am not sure if the 240 had one but I am thinking that it doesn't.
To trick the car into thinking the clutch pedal is down you need to use the Status output and a relay. There is probably a plug at the top of the clutch mechanism. Test those wires to see which one changes voltage or ground when the pedal is depressed. Then use a relay to imitate that.
I've never worked on a CompuStar so I can't help with the other questions.
(cliffjumper... I'm MECP from club3g)
heh heh... this has become the never ending project... so last weekend my friend and I finished wiring everything up, except the hood pin. The brain can sense the tach, and the turbo timer working.
But, when I turn it off/on 5 times, it refuses to go into learning mode!! Is there some sort of trick to turning it on and off? I think I saw somewhere that in needs to be within 10 sec., but we tried doing it quickly, slowly, and still no luck :(
Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but the blue light doesn't stay on. I only see it flash once when I disconnect and reconnect the car battery. Am I supposed to see it at any other time?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance....
The ss requires a special programming device to do any progamming. You will have to go to a Compustar dealer for that.
