Subject: 98 Envoy, after 20 minutes, alarm goes off

I have a 98 GMC Envoy, got a Viper 350HV installed and it has 2 leds.

after the truck is armed, after about 20 minutes, the alarm goes off, then if it is disarmed and rearmed, it will keep going off about every 3 minutes.

I am going back to the shop in the morning, but have already been there twice and they turned down the shock sensor, but that seems not to be the problem.

does anyone know what is going on and what I can recommend to the installers?

I have installed many things, my guess is that the leds are drawing too much current and after 20 minutes, it is trying to shut down the extra signal flow and trips the alarm,..but not sure, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

KeylessGuy

If it has the current sensor feature, then you are right, that might set it off.

So what would be the solution to this problem?

Would an extra alarm battery work or is there another more viable solution?

Thanks,

I am not sure about your vehicle, but my wife had a 2004 impala doing about the same thing. The cause of it was the emergency brake. If you are setting your emergency brake try not setting it and see what happens. Like mrcllusb said it has a current sensor and it was picking up some change from the emergency brake.

hate to point out the obvious, what does the LED tell you? How many times is it blinking when you disarm it?

That will tell you what zone is setting the alarm off.

Thanks for all your response.

about the parking brake, never use parking brake on the truck.

about the led blinking, I did not notice how many times it is blinking after this happens, truck is in valet mode so my neighbors don't kill me.

so does anyone know the solution to the problem? lets say the light is blinking and it says it is from a current sensor, then what?

Also, take a look at the hood pin and door pins, if possible remove the shock sensor for the time being just to eliminate one possibility of a faulty sensor.

was in shop, they said the doors were falling asleep and they had to put a diode on it. seems to be working fine, the two blue LEDs on my pillars are the brightest thing on the whole block at night, hope it is not drawing 'extra' attention to my pimped out ride!

Thanks,
