Subject: need to reprogram 556L
Date Posted: October 25, 2005 at 10:41 PM

I had my Boa 265b working ...(except for the parking lights). In trying to fix the parking lights I erased the programming for the passlock 2 module (556L). Unplugged all the fuses and tried to re-program the module but doesn't seem to want to re-learn.  I know all the wiring is right, as I said it worked until I goofed it up. 99 S10 Blazer. The wiring data from the manufacturer listed 2 parking light wires, one + and one-. I had the parking lead from the remote starter wired to the negative one. The instructions were vague but it said a negative trigger were what was wanted. BTW my online support seems to have expired so any help I get here will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

key on off on off start the truck, LED on 556L will blink 2 times, then after 5-10 seconds it blink again, you are done.

Well, I unplugged the 12v to module (I think that erases the memory, right?), key on, key off key on, start..... nothing happens. BTW, the security light stays on after I start it with the key. I guess that confirms that the 556L isn't doing everything it should. Seems to run OK starting it with the key though.

Just read my post. Key on and OFF twice, THEN start is what I meant to write.

OK, looking at my situation again, since it starts and runs with the key alright maybe the problem isn't the 556L but the remote starter itself. I thought it was the bypass module because the led didn't flash when I tried to re-program it. If I pull the fuses does that clear the memory in the remote starter? When I try to make the transmitter re-learn (after removing and re-inserting the battery) nothing happens.

Here's some more weirdness... when I turn the engine off and close the door the courtesy lights stay on a minute. When the lights turn off my fuel guage creeps up to half full. When I open the door it drops back to empty.

???????????????????????????????

You have something not wired right

I've never seen that happen before.

first thing I would do is remove the black wire from the 556L off the vehicles ORANGE / black and find a good solid ground for it.

my friend i recommend you stop now and take it to a professional before you do serious damage to your vehicle..... i am not aware that the 555L loses programming if power is disconnected....if it did, i'm sure at least one or two of the hundred + i've installed would have come back by now because the customer disconnected his battery.....

Thanks for the suggestions.  I found I didn't have the status monitor wire  connected properly.  556L re-programs fine now. Back to looking for the right parking light wire.....

Thanks everyone. . It might help someone else to know that I found out that, at least with my vehicle, how quickly I turn the key off and on is crucial to getting the module to program itself.

Kevin.... the 556L loses it's mind when power is removed. You can also easily change modes by flipping the key on and off too many times in succession. Overall, I am not too impressed by this piece. For newer GMs I believe I will stick to the 2 relays/resistance method. 555L is a super solid piece (and would have been better in this application), the 556L tries to do too many things.

Oh well.... too old fashioned I guess.

Gus
PS: 556H will work on 2005+ Hondas with remote keys....

The 556L is being discussed here....it just came out this year. I think you are referring to the 555L.

hey i'm a little slow on the uptake..... lol     i just think of a 556L as a renumbered version of the 555L.... i wasnt aware they made any substantial software changes to this piece.... and it's theoretically so obsolete now it shouldnt be an issue anyway... i mean, who cuts passlock wires anymore?
