Compustar 2W8000 + Heated Seats?

Hello everyone!  Just discovered this site and I've learned a BUNDLE already.  I've read the info on diodes and relays and poked around the site a bit and now I have some questions.

First some info:
2002 Mazda Protege5 (5-spd)
Compustar 2W8000FMR Alarm/Starter  (CM3000 brain)
Panasonic CQC-8401 HU

Question #1:

I recently had the alarm starter installed by a local shop.  I also installed two seat heating pads myself that I want to connect to the starter so they come on when I remote start the car. From what I've read, using a relay to turn on the heaters, and tapping a line from the starter as the switch is probably the best option.  From the wiring diagram, I'm thinking either the ACC wire, (pin 4 from CN1) or the ignition wire (pin 7 from CN1) are the best options.

Does anyone have any experience tapping lines for relays on the Compustar Units?  Am I on the right track?  I think the ACC line is probably the best choice to use for this project.  The seat pads draw 10a each. Of course I'd like the seats to remain active while regular driving as well.

So to connect them via the relay I'm thinking running a constant 12v to 87, ACC wire to 85, ground to 86 and the heating pads to 30.  Will this work like I think it will?   Do i need to hook any diodes up in the mix?  What kind and where?

Question #2

As you see above, I have a 5spd.  As a result, the car stays running until after I get out and close the door as part of the reservation mode.  The problem is that my stereo keeps running as well.  I thought that when I turn off the key, the stereo should turn off?  Did the installer wire the acc line incorrectly?  I would like the stereo to power down so I can properly remove the faceplate instead of popping it off while it's playing. Makes me cringe every time!

Question #3

Continuing on the reservation mode train of though - Does anyone know with my model of starter if it's possible to override the reservation mode and force the car to start anyway?  For example, if while the car is off, I run out, unlock the door, grab something and then re-arm it - reservation mode will cancel and I'll have to start the car manually to reset it.  If I *KNOW* the car is safe to start, I should be able to still start it even though res mode got cancelled.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

3. No way around the reservation mode once engaged. This is the way the system works and no way around it aside from the obvious but that wouldn't be very smary to do on a manual transmission vehicle.

1 - Thanks! So from my diagram in my first post, using pin 7 instead of pin 4 will work then. If I read the wiring diagram correctly, pin 7 is the ignition and status wire of the starter.  Any diodes needed for this?

2 - No - the stereo DOES shut off (properly) with the car after i close the door.  I'd just prefer if it powers down when i pull the key out, like pretty much all the other starters i've ever seen. In addition, when I remote START the car with the faceplate attached, the stereo starts up and begins playing, again something I'd rather not have - especially if I forgot to turn the volume down from the last time I was in the car!  ;)

I do not recomend hooking up directly to the remote starter, you can void your warranty, the seats have a toogle, so just hook them to an accessory line that can handle up to 20 amps and they will come on with the starter.

Your not going to hurt the deck buy pulling the face off when the deck is on.

Hooked the seats up last night.  I ran a relay using the ignition line on the starter as the switch (85,86) and ran a dedicated 12v line to power the seats themselves (87,30).  Everything installed and worked perfectly on the first try!  WOO!  I put a diode on between the relay and the starter to prevent any blowback from the coil when it's discharging so I don't think there will be any problems in that respect.

I know it won't really hurt the deck - I just hate pulling it off while it's running like that - and more importantly, if I'm ever using the deck with the faceplate tilted, I need to power down the deck to un-tilt it so I can remove the face.

???  Who is this?  Paul?  Lyle?  I didn't get any info when i bought the 'seaters' as I didn't even have the starter at the time!  Anyway, if this IS someone from the place that put in my compustar - shake the installers hand for me.  Well done job, especially after hearing a MAJOR horror story from a friend that got a starter done at a different place.  Made me glad I went with you guys. :)

Two comments - Include the wiring/install guides in the box.  I know most people won't ever use them or even look at them, but they DID pay for them when they bought the unit. Saves them the trip back to the store to get them in the off chance they DO want them!  :)

Get the installer to mount the brain/relays to the car instead of resting them in a small pocket.  I race my car during the summer and there's a chance something could bounce out of the pocket while I'm tossing the car around on the track.

So what about that power to the deck issue?  I know it's not a big deal, but I'm picky!!

As far as the install instructions go, customers do not get them, they don't need them and when they do have them, alot of times they come back to me after they messed with they're starter. Most shops never give them to customers and they will void the warranty on you. As far as mounting relays go, most cars are different and I know the tech does try to mount them when he can.

And about the power to the deck issue... I don't know for sure if that car needs the accessory line hooked up, but its better to hook up as much of the wires as possible to avoid problems, the tech was just being through. Your better off to leave it and be safer than sorry.
