Hi, I have a 01 Malibu which I'm trying to install a Deluxe Remote Start/Keyless Entry system(23739) from DesignTech Intl. I have everything wired and ready to go and when I try to inintalize the unit it does nothing. I can get it to to turn on the instrument cluster and blower with the on/off switch, but it will not initalize. I think it might have to do with the ignition 2 wire. In the docs it says dk green but the colors i have are 2xorg,2xpink,1ltgrn,1red,1brown,1yel. I tried the brown wire but I think it is an accessory wire. Is the green wire correct, could it be my reciever. Each wire was probed and the brown and green act the same. I read on their site that sometimes hood pin doesn't ground, but I don't want to try anything until I know my colors are correct. I have installed designtech before with the same bypass module and had no problems. Thanks.

your car needs a bypass module to bypass the factory immobilizer You could use a DEI product, the part number is 556L that is what I got for your car

Where are you getting the ignition wires in the car?
You will find a large bundle under the driver's dash, which has most of the wires, but the dark green ignition 2 is not there.
The only way I know to get ignition 2 is to just get all of your ignition wires behind the keywitch, accessed by removing the radio. Don't unplug the radio unless you have the Theftlock code for it.

no basically the ignition wires start pretty much behind the stereo, the key cylinder is only inches from the stereo i checked another sourse and it says the wire is green, not dark green

I figured it out, it is the DRK green wire is for ignintion 2. My remote start module is having trouble inintalizing. Has anyone else had a problem similar to mine(DesignTech 23739). I put a similar model in my car from another car and it works perfectly, I cannot get my new unit to initalize in either car. It does nothing after I unsert the green 30amp fuse. Until if remove the ground and battery from the module, wait a couple min, then plug them in and turn the control switch on. Then all the instruments come on, not when I press the brake, but when I turn it on! I've done every initalization procedure there is and tech support is no help. Anyone please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

If you're familiar with how to initialize a Designtech, and you were clever enough to try it out in another car where you know the install is good..... you just might have a bad unit. But you should first test all the wires to make sure you didn't make an install error.
I forget exactly how those things initialize........ but it involves the hood, the brake, the control switch, the ignition, and the gearshift, correct?
So, just go right to the wiring where it enters the brain.........that is, grab the brain, grab your test light or whatever........and test by putting the test light right onto the little bit of metal you can see at the plug.
-Does the hoodpin wire go to ground with the hood open?
-Does the brake wire go to power with the brake applied?
-The control switch has two wires; one should be ground at all times. Does the other wire go to ground when the switch is flipped on?
-Does the IGN1 wire receive power when the ignition is turned to Run AND Start?
-Put your test light on the Designtech's STARTER wire. It should rest as a ground. Place the car in gear; the ground should disappear and you might see a weak positive on the test light, or maybe nothing.

I think I might have a bad unit, but I want to know should the unit shut off when the hood is open or prevent it from starting. Because in my other installation which I tested on this car the unit still functions with the hood open. When I tested the hood pin with a test light using the brake lead on one side and pin on the other, it lit. So other then the hood pin all my other wiring is correct. The unit works the same way in my Alero, the hood pin. I bought another Deluxe unit that is DesignTech made by Directed so hopefully it will work.

Success, the hood pin was seeing ground, but I had to mount it in another location so it would catch with the hood closed. In my other car the hood pin is rusted, but I stiil tried every inintalization procedure there is and the other unit wouldn't inintailize. Oh well, life goes on.
