I wonder if you guys would help me on this?
I don't know much about wiring but I purchased a 2000 Tacoma used, and it had an alarm system on it. It was unhooked ,according to the dealer, when they get used cars with alarm sys. It has a module under the dash and a horn/siren under the hood. How can I find out what brand it is so I can figure how to get it to work again??
It did not come with any remotes and is not a Toyota system as far as I can tell. Thw windows were even etched, so I guess it is probably a good system. Is there a way.??
Thanks

Look under the dash for a black module/box that doesn't look factory. It may or may not be there if the dealership "disconnected" the system from the truck. If there's a wire coming from the engine into the cab for the siren, you should be able to trace this wire to the connection point where the alarm CPU is suppose to be.

On the underdash module, can you find a FCC ID number? If you go to remotesunlimited.com, you can type in that number and buy remotes.

Unfortunately, you will see that buying two new remotes can cost almost as much as the alarm itself, and plus, you still may have to fix or reconnect the alarm.

Thanks guys, I will go out and see what I can trace down.
It may be cheaper to just go have one installed .
