I'm trying to help my son with his car. We were going to put in a set of gauge covers and disconnected the battery. He has a Viper 514T alarm.
We can't get the car to start and the alrm goes off after reconnecting the battery. He bought the car used about 5 years ago.

We called two dealers, who matter of factly told me to turn key on, press valet button once and turn key off. I tried several times. They don't seem to want to mess with it. I think they believe everybody uses a car alarm. I told my son to disconnect it when he first bought it, but he thinks it is really valuable.

Unfortunately, the only time it has gone off is in our drive. Any help would be appreciated.

I also called the Viper 800 number which asks for my zip and refers me to the same dealers....arghhhh!!

I think on the 514T:
You turn the Key ON
Then OFF
Within 10 seconds, PRESS the VALET Button once
LED should Lite and Stay ON solid.

You probably have STARTER Kill Relay, which is prventing you from Starting Vehicle.  Probably mounted near Steering Column & Ignition Wires

Will the procedure with the valet button turn off the starter kill switch, or do you mean there is a seperate button for that?

OK, I tried that and it didn't work . Any other ideas? This happened once before when we were installing some custom fog lights, and I remember something about holding the key on till the valet button was released, or vice\versa. Sure sorry I didn't write it down...but it has been a couple years and it would probably be lost by now if I did!

I wouldn't mind taking to a Viper dealer tomorrow when they are open, but I can't get it to start, and I'll be damned if I'm going to have it towed for them to reset a button.

Damn!!! The guy must have been a thorough installer. I followed the wire from the valet switch as far as I could. It terminates behind the console where heater switches etc. are. It is on a Mustang. I'm going to try to cross reference from the numbers on the back of the remote...

By the way, thanks for all  your time.

It's a Viper Remote...not aftermarket. On back it states... 800 phone number which just referred me back to the same dealers via my entering a zip code; 266 Rolling Codes and the FCC number you have already.

when you disconnect the battery and then reconnect it, the alarm goes of cause it is armed, most alarms you have to disarm it before you can do anything, that would explain the car not starting, cause when the car is armed the started kill will kick in that was installed\

this works on most alarms, but it seems like it won't on this one cause someone would of already told you this by now

but just try it just incase

Sorry TJ, I don't see how purchasing a new remote applies to this thread.
