could someone please tell me what this is and does... it has 3 wires (RED / ORANGE / black) and a a gain control knob min to max.... I have this sitting around and was wondering if its worth using?

yep it is exactly how you described it, i used one to activate a sense and tell unit they are very sensitive, what was you intending to use it for.

I was gonna use it as a secondary sensor input for my alarm but I dont exactly understand its function, so hence I dont know what its useful for... is it a shock sensor or?

it is a magnetic resonance sensor, it senses the surrounding of the vehicle, so basically if anyone goes close to the car and touches it, it will then activate.
