Hi all,

tried to install one of the carvox systems in 97 astro, all is working fine except the remote start as I have read with other posts here,  I don't want to give up yet here is my situation, after remote starting + engine running it keeps trying to restart, I have tried tach input to coil and injector same problem, then I noticed the remote recognizes that it is running so tach signal should not be a problem, what I want to do is wire in a relay that kills the starter wire when running like an antigrind of sorts BUT it appears the  ground outputs when running or in armed mode actually are not putting out a ground signal of any kind  I have tried to wire in relays using theses trigger outputs with no sucsess,I think I have developed tunnel vision with this POS so I am looking for some input/help on installing a separate or standalone start wire bypass when running to fix this problem or any other ideas someone may have besides scrapping the whole damn thing

It says

"tachometer input or high voltage sensing wire" connect to vehicles Tach wire at coil, cluster, injector, or ecm

this Van does not have a Tach so I went to ignition control module tach output to ecm had the same problem, now have it hooked to off color at #5 injector and same problem??

as earlier stated I think the security module sees the signal because the remote does show the vehicle is running

If iot continues to CRANK while it's running then TACH still sounds like the problem

I know on some of those units you could WRAP the TACH wire around a Spark Plug wire about 5 times and get a signal
Otherwise:
ECM located drivers side engine compartment, behind battery. White wire found in black plug labeled white.

OR

Tach SignalWHITEAT IGNITION COIL

There is no tach programming option

Now you know why I am at the point of just wanting to wire in a starter disconnect when running

The tach signal has to be programmed to the unit somehow after you've hooked the wire up. What you've described is a unit that hasn't learned the vehicle's tach or sensed a voltage change to know that the car's running.

Most units I've done have had the tach programmed by starting the car with the key and then holding the valet switch until the status LED lights up. Some have dip switches that you can manually set for 1-cylinder, 2-cyl., 4-cyl., etc. I'm confident that your instructions will say something about programming the tach signal, or about selecting between tach sensing or voltage sensing, choosing crank time, and other programming options.

Have you tried hooking TACH wire to CONSTANT 12 Volts POSITIVE for Current sense.........??

There is absolutely nothing for tach program or learn cycle no dip switches either, I guess once it sees signal it is supposed to be self learning??? or the signal just cancells the restart mode??

mo12v

do you think that is safe I was already pondering that but something kept saying no

That would have to be a 12volt  source once started? maybe the drl relay?

what kind of signal is tach output it is not constant 12 volt has to be a variable

some say it is AC voltage varying between 0-6 AC volts

others are in the manual, that is the quick reference page, unless you need all the step by step wire hook-up it is the same

Had someone with the same Unit & problem in a Pontiac about 6 months ago.  He tried to send me copies, but couldn't..................Guess I try and get a copy of a complete manual..............Seems kind of cheesie at best.
Will try and locate more info..........

as I stated earlier I believe the tach signal is good, the reason I believe this is that the remote display does show that the car is running so it is communicating with module and being told that by module

correct????? yes or no??

would still like to explore mo12v's suggestion to hook-up direct 12v+  for tach signal

any views or comments

what about tapping into 1 of the sensors with 5 volt signals

Have you tried leaving the tach wire unhooked? The unit might be able to sense a voltage change through the main power wires.

Leaving the tach wire off did not work either

anyone have an idea on my original post about wiring in a relay for starter cut once running,

I still will have to go back to my earlier post about the programming options being listed in the manual. I know I'm kind of kicking this horse to death, but I've done several brands of remote start and all of them, sometimes very deep in the poorly written/translated owner's manual, had some sort of instructions to change settings on the remote start that maybe look something like this:
Run time - 10 or 20 min.
Sensing mode - Tach, voltage, oil pressure
Unlock pulse - single, double
Etc., etc., etc.

The method of programming varies between brands...usually it's a combination of pushing the brake pedal, switching the ignition, pushing the valet switch, and pushing buttons on the remote. I think it's unconscionable that they would not have anything at all about how to program written in the owner's manual; however I couldn't find this manual on the net anywhere - if you have a link post it and I'll take a look.

As far as your starter kill idea, it's good in theory; however most remote starts that I've done will shut off the ignition after a few seconds or so if they don't think the car's running(which all indications are is your problem).

bear with me, I will scan the programming page for you to see, I cannot see anything that would have to do with programing tach signal

Wow. That is pretty asinine that it gives you all those options and nothing about the engine sensing. I can't go to their website now to look up info. Do they give you a tech support number or website in that manual?

I am trying to contact seller, but he won't respond, ebay has provided a phone number with no luck either, so ebay themselves are looking into it for me.

thanks to everyone for the help
