Alipine SEC-8028 Alarm On 1993 Grand Cherokee

I've never installed an alarm before. I've installed quite a few head units, amps and speakers. I know about threading through the firewall and hooking up to the battery, etc. However I've never installed an alarm system.

I have an Alpine SEC-8028 on my Honda Accord that I want to remove and put on my Grand Cherokee (I'm selling the Accord soon). Is this something that's going to be way over my head? I'm more worried about messing with the starter kill and rendering the Accord not able to start. Otherwise the wiring wouldn't bother me.

Any ideas?

if you look under the dash, in your main ign harness you'll see a BLACK/ white wire.. that is the starter wire.. follow it and it will eventually go into a relay.. relay will have two red wires, one solid red and other RED / white.. also an orange and a black wire (the trigger wires and ground) just cut the two red wires (they will be 12 or 14 awg) from the relay and connect them together..

If you don't feel confident in doing this, you can just cut the orange and black wires from the relay and pull everything else out leaving the relay in the car.. you will have to get another relay for the jeep, but it will not hurt leaving the relay in the honda..

I have the wire harness disconnected from the alarm's main unit. Is if possible to buy another wire harness for the alarm system and just leave the current harness in there? If so, how much would that cost and what's the turnaround time on getting something like that from Alipine?

you can do that but it will cost you more than going to have someone professionally remove it and set it aside.. in my shop, we charge aorund $20 to $30 to remove an alarm.. depending on the features..in a honda like yours, will probably be $25 and take about 10 minutes..

To get a new harness, you will have to find an authorized dealer and they will have to order from Pacific Coast Parts.. turn around is usually week to 10 days.. and I don't know cost.. proably around $40 knowing PCP and alpine cables.

My local car stereo store is charging me $75 to remove the alarm and they watn up to $175 to install it in the Jeep.

What do you think?

I'd look for another shop..

$75 to remove is a little on the high side I think.. of course, being on commission, sounds good to me!!!  but still high.. $175 is not bad since it is an alarm that they are not selling.. if you buy an alarm and have it installed, they will usually not make you pay for the wires, connectors, loom, stuff like that.. if you have it removed and installed in another one, some shops may charge a little more to make up the cost of materials... Of course, that depends on what features you are getting.. Basic with shock, kill, lights and locks will run about that price in any shop.. $140 at mine plus relays.. anywhere from $5 to $15 at a shop..$5 at mine.. Remember working at one shop long time ago sold relays for $15.. and a relay for EVERYTHING.. neg door locks? need a relay.. oh you want remote starter.. we can build that for $xxx and then 10 relays at $15 each! LOL (saw 12volt talking about the old days in another thread.)

So $175 ain't bad if your getting a loaded alarm (locks, lights, kill)

I bought all of my car stereo stuff from them including the alarm. The installed it on the Honda themselves and they charged me for materials. To remove their work, they're asking $75. To install it again in another vehicle, they're charging $175.

Yeah, I want the starter kill, lights and power door locks. That's what I had on the Honda.

So $175 sounds good?
