Hi, I'm new to the site and I see that there are a lot of knowledgeable people here!

So, I have a friend with a 2004 Chevy Impala, and he wants me to install a remote starter in it. I've done some stereo installs before, and I don't think I'll have any problems getting it in for him, provided I have good instructions. What I need is for you guys to let me know what reasonably-priced systems you've had good experiences with...

Thanks in advance for the help!!  -Sebastian

Wow..going from radios to full blown alarms? Good job...Look at DEI systems..they are both user and installer friendly. Good luck.

I stick with Compustar systems. 1WAM-S for a basic remote starter or upgrade to the 900 or 8000 series systems and get 2 way paging and extended range.

No warranty on DEI if not installed by an authorized DEI installer.

Just a note for you to consider

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Any more? Does anyone sell a complete car-specific kit?

I like the idea of the Velocity telephonic system, too. How are they?

I have had no problems with the systems that I install and the range is great on the Canadian unit. The systems are made to be universal and installed by a professional. The '04 Impala has a few things that are note worthy when adding a remote starter but nothing serious that a couple of relays and a module can't do for you.

Use the GMBP for the bypass of the Passlock system and then you will need two relays for the door lock system and use this diagram

Use the (-) parking light instead of the (+) for ease of installation & everything else is pretty easy to do and a direct connection. This is my opinion and from my point of view though, so don't assume that it will be a breeze if you have not installed a system into a vehicle before.

This should take an experienced installer about 2-3 hours to install properly for jsut a remote starter unit and about 4-6 hours for a remote starter & security system.

What are my my options for telephonic starters? We want to have remote start only, no alarm/extras neccessary, how much do these go for? Where can we get one reasonably priced?

Thanks for your patience guys, I know it's a lot of questions!
