I did a starer in this vehicle and everything works fine, except the key lock light stays lit on the dash. The car starts w/ remote and stays running, also w/ key but light stays on. If I undo passlock by pass light goes out when started w/ key. I used a DEI 555L first. Then when I got this Problem I tried DEI 556uw and I cant even get this to go into program mode? I checked all conections on the by pass just to be sure all looks and test fine. I also have DEI 457gw I can try. Any thoughts or has anyone run into this befor? Thanks

556U is for transponder-based systems, not PASSLock. You can try the 457G and give it a shot, but it is a more expensive piece than the 555L.
No reason the 555L shouldn't work. Where are/were each of the 555L's wires connected?
If the light stays on all the time, even when started with the key, this means the PASSLock system is in "fail-enable" mode.
That basically means that something came disconnected while the engine was running, and the system is now inoperative until the trouble is repaired. From your point of view, it usually means that you connected something wrong, or one of your connections is not good.

Sorry I ment tne 556LW. That is what I used. On DEI's web site they said to use the 556LW and didnt show a listing for the the 555L. 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

| close Now they do show a 555LW, is this a 555L in a cardboard box? also the 555L I used is a BOA consumer unit. It is marked 555LB on the package but the actual unit say 555L. Anyways I hooked wires up as follows: yellow pass lock- cut in half ( BLACK / YELLOW body side, yellow key side) orange black passlock- tied into w/ black from unit blue/black unit- ground during remote start pink unit- ignition red unit-12v constant I tested all these conections except the passlock wires. I know I have the right wires. I dont want to use the 457gw so maby I will try the realy and resistors? Any more in put? |

I did one of these a couple of weeks ago and found that it wasn't getting a good ground thru the ground out when running. What I did was hooked a relay to the Ground out when running wire and a gound on the common of the contacts. It was the same problem.

Could you just explain this a little better, sounds like you maybe on to something? 85-ground out during remote start 86-12v+ 30- Ground to chassis 87- ground to Passlock bypass, where it would have been hooked to ground during remote start? Relay is correct, but it seems funny that the Ground Out While Running will power Relay and Not the 555 OMEGA...........IB-PLXR.........or...........IB-PLJX would probably cost less & No Hassle ------------- MO

I dont really understand what everyone posted, but I used to work at a Chevy lot, and with these Equinox's... We never cut the starter wire. Cutting it resulted with a negative outcome (Something with the airbag I believe because when we repaired it, the mechanics had the airbag removed). However, we did figure out how to make a starter kill withOUT cutting the starter wire. Let me know if this is what you want, but I know for a fact interrupting the factory starter wire will give you problems.

joebiv318 post concerns an issue with the Remote Start & Security ByPass that was installed......On the Equinox & other Chevy's a ByPass has to be installed for the Vehicle to Start & Run. The Equinox does NOT have a Conventional type Starter wire @ the Ignition Switch, and you need to install a ByPass that will supply the proper DATA ( or resistance ) to the Ignition wires for the vehicle to Start......... ------------- MO

Problem solved. The Key cylinder in this truck was broke. The chime kept dinging even w/ the door open. So I guess the truck would see Two keys during remote start. Once I figured this out, I was able to Get everything to work great. Also I ended up using the 555L. Thanks everyone!!! ------------- Owner/ Custom Compact Performance

I just called it a 'starter wire' because a co-worker of mine interrupted the Brown (Maybe Orange I forgot?!) wire at the ignition harness thinking it would be the starter wire. It wasnt, and the vehicle still started. Rather than interrupting any wire, we found out that shooting a (-) pulse/trigger whatever you wanna call it to that Brown (Maybe Orange) wire while the car is armed, prevents the vehicle from being started.
