Should you always throw a diode in line with the resistors on a single wire door lock system?

Depends how the wire rests, if it "wakes" up when a pulse is applied the no, if it rests at a polarity and you're worried about feedback then yes.

Thanks, yeah the wire requires a - pulse to activate lock/unlock
