The proximity sensor on my alarm is triggering a full alarm when it should trigger warn-away chirps. It chirps and then goes into a full blast. Any idea on what could cause this? It is installed in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the factory alarm still active. The Viper sets and disarms the factory alarm as well. I had this same setup in a 1994 Grand Cherokee I have never had a problem. I did not install it myself, so what I want is clues where to start looking to fix it.

there is a good chance that the prox sensor is not tuned properly or the installer didnt hooked the wires from the prox up propperly into the brain of the 791xv

Where theres is a wire there's a way.

Thanks for the reply. I used the same installer for both cars but I will have him double check the wiring next week. Also, the remote is only half working. It will show the system as armed or unarmed but it does not notify me will the alarm is sounding. In other words when I arm the system it shows that it has been armed and the same is true for the unarming process. But, it the alarm is triggered I do not get a notification on the remote.

It's most likely not your proximity sensor. 1998ish Jeep's door trigger wire will pulse every few minutes after the dome light has gone off and the factory security has been armed.  Ask the install who installed it, how did they hook up the door triggers.  If he says," I tapped on to the dome light", tell him to move it and go to each door and diode isolate the trigger wires.  I would guess that he hooked it up to the dome light because it is a pain to get to some of the wires, or if he did isolate the wires, there may be a diode turned around or shorted out.

1stClass,

Thanks for your comments. I'm meeting with the installer on Monday or Tuesday. I going to take a copy of everyone's comments with me do be sure that I don't miss anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on why the remote is not showing the triggers?

After reading your post, I don't think it's the dorr trigger's seeing that your saying that the prox sensor is triggering full after the warn is triggered. The way that the prox sensor's work is if the 1st perimeter sensor is triggered, the sensor automatically will monitor the inner perimeter and if movement is detected, it will full alarm.

If your not having any falsing probmlems with the vehicle just sitting there over night, then the door trigger's are probably set up properly. I would get the installer to set the inner perimeter smaller so it doesn't reach outside the vehicle causing this false alarm.

Thanks. I have never had a probelm with it sitting overnight so I will have him check the system and turn down the inner sensor.

I have a Viper 791xv installed in my '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Everything is working except the two-way communications between the remote and the unit during an alarm. When the system is triggered the unit does not send a notice to the remote. Everything about the remote appears to also work. It beeps, vibrates, arms and disarms the system. I prefer not to install a replacement unit if I can help it. What would cause the system not to notify the remote and can it be fixed by reprogramming? Please help, otheriwise I will be forced to remove the old unit and install a new unit. Is it possible that a channel is turned off or mis-programmed?

Thanks,

James
