I just bought a 790 transponder made by viper I had the people at Circuit City Install It and when they did i had to buy a 555l bypass thing for the passlock. (I think that is the number). Anyways it all worked good for a little while then one day I was driving and a Security light came on. So I turned the car off and restarted no light. Well this started to happen more and more. Finally one morning I hit the remote start came outside and it wasn't running I jumped in tried to start it with the key and it wouldn't work. Called circuit city they told me to put the key in the ignition and wait 10 mins. so I did then it started. I have since replaced this bypass kit and still have the same problem obvioulsy they don't know how to fix it and I have done a little homework on the subject . All i want to know is, is there a way that I can fix it so I still have passlock, do I have to get rid of passlock and the factory security all togther, or do I have to put a diode or resistor. All I want is for it to work it doesn't really matter to me anymore if passlock works or not but if it doesn't I don't want that security light on all the time. So if someone can help I would really appreciate it. As for know I dont really trust it cause sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Oh yeah i also read that maybe the cold weather can change some stuff to but I live in cali and it gets down to about 50 deg. here so let me know what you guys think that I can do.
Most of the time if this problem exists , it is because of improper programming of the Passlock module or the installer used the wron bypass module for the installation. Did they use the 555L or the 555T ? Either one is right, but I'm not sure if you meant the 555" i " or the 555 " L " in your post. If they used the 555 " i " then there is your problem, it's the wrong bypass module.
If have the porper one in there, make sure that they programmed it properly. Do some of your own troubleshooting with this link : https://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/accessories/N555L_7-02B.pdf and find the wires that were attached to the module to ensure that they were the correct ones.

also aamp has a module that tells the databus to turn off the passlock. plgmd i believe
You know today I was sriving home and I thought that since it works sometimes and not others that maybe it was just wired incorrectly. I am going to check that with your diagram that you sent me. Also how would I go about resetting the r-code. I am assuming just unplug the unit then set it like they said if you think different please let me know.
The 555L is an auto learning module. You shouldn't have to "set the r-code" It is supposed to relearn the r-code every time you start the car with the key. There must be something strange with the hookup. Since 555L has a harness that unplugs, when you had it replaced they probably just unplugged the old and inserted the new without checking out the wiring. You may want to check the power and ground connections. Make sure they are solid and not cold soldered. If it loses power while you're driving and then regains it The next time you use the 790 to start the truck the 555L has probably lost the original r-code sending the passlock into tamper mode. That's just a thought I had with the description of the problem.
I would just like to thank all the help that you guys have gigvin me and I am going to try this this weekend an I will let you know. I also think that it is something in the wiring maybe loose connection or something so I am going to check cause if it was that it would work sometimes and not others.
Saturday I got underneath my dash and checked the wires. Come to find out four of the four hundred are twisted together and have black tape arounf them. These were like 8 gauge wire too. Then on the 555 module I had the same thing so I took the liberty of soldering the connections and heat shrinking them and this fixed the problem. I have a hard time with this I paid the 150.00 to no deal with the headache of this and I still got the headache. It also cost me money. I hope that none of the installers that read these forums would do this cause I will never go back but I really appreciate all the help that everyone here gave me.
