I'm in the market for a new car right now, and I was wondering if the stock alarms provided by the manufacturer will still cut it in today's high tech world of auto-theft (I maybe exaggerating a bit). I'm looking into an Infiniti G35 Coupe right now, which is probably what I might end up buying, but I want to know *IF* I should upgrade the alarm system, and what should I use? I've had some good experiences with Clifford before, I don't remember the model as it was already on the car when I had bought it. I've been reading and searching through the forums, most people have suggested something from Clifford or Viper. I really don't have the time or energy to have my car stolen or worse yet, so if someone can point me down the road to a high-end security system, I would really appreciate it. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I'm willing to pay just about anything for a real good alarm system, I'm not in car security business so I don't know if Viper is the best out there or not. I would like an alarm system with a paging unit obviously, if anybody can suggest me some high-end alarms that would be most appreciative, I really would like to avoid getting a headache down the road and realizing I should have spent more to buy a better alarm. I am well aware that an alarm won't stop all thieves, it should just either slow them down or discourage them from trying to take something. Anyways, thanks if anybody can offer some guidance.

Anybody have any other suggestions? I was told that Viper is higher quality than Clifford, unless I'm wrong. I guess nobody wants to help.

Clifford , and Viper both made by DEI though the clifford system kgerry metioned is great does everything and I don't think DEI makes a Viper equivalent.

Ah yes the sales person is at it again.....did they tell you that one company owns both Viper and Clifford (and Python, Avitol, Rattler, Valet, Hornet, Wasp and more than likely some others). So which one is the best? I happen to like and use Compustar, the 2WFM8000AS. It is one of the few brands that has not been a new model every year. I have the exact same brain from 1999 actually. Only thing I have changed is updated the remote control. A good alarm is all about the install first and foremost so choose your installer carefully. Find out how a thief can break in and what needs to be added to a alarm system to make it worthwhile. To be fair, Compustar is also available under another brand name like Nustart, small differences in the remotes but the software is pretty much the same. Things like a battery backup siren, glass break sensor, digital tilt sensor etc. A good installer and salesperson will go through this for you. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Thank you, I'm sorry to come off a bit uneducated, which I am. I just need a quote "badass" alarm, because I've had my fair share of junk alarms in the past. My dad has an avital in his car right now, which is okay, but it's so purely basic it hurts.. and any decent thief could probably break into the car without setting off anything, I'm 99% sure of that. I have been discussing alarms with several friends of mine, a few of them actually sell alarms, but don't actually install them, so I'm getting a few bits of advice here and there. I'm going to all out on an alarm system setup, I was quoted $1,000 (CDN) for a top of the line system, which includes hood pins, glass break sensors, etc which I thought wasn't too bad.. I guess what I'm trying to ask is can someone give me a list of what features I need to get with my alarm system? Since I don't work in the business, I maybe missing important things.
