I'm doing a remote start on a 99 Chevy Cavalier. I've done one on a 2001 Cavalier and if I remember correctly it was one of the worst installs I've done. I think I had a real tough time getting to the wires due to the fact the metal plate covering the ignition wires doesn't come off. My question is the 99 the same thing? If so, does someone know an easier way to access the wires??

Also, I go to www.bypasskit.com to see what bypass if any I will need and it shows some that I have never ever used.. I usually use a GMBP for Chevy vehicles.. Anyone know if the GMBP or PLDATA will work with the 99 Cavalier?

Thanks!

YEah 99 is the same as an 01 as far as getting ot the ignition harness.  What you can do to get to the wiring easier is if you look under the dash next to the drivers kickpanel.  You will see a large bundle of wire running into the engine bay through a big grey grommet.  Slice off the split loom, tape and other stuff and you can get your igniton wires in that spot too.  A lot easier than reaching through the steering wheel.  LAter

No problem.  As for finding it.  I don't think you'll have a problem.  To be honest you'd have to be blind to miss it.

a second note to add is that its the bundle of wires that is comming down from the dash that has ALL of the wires in it. the one thats lowest to the floor only has a few of the wires you need in it.

If you take apart the steering column, you can unplug the ignition switch and pull the wires back out and then make your connections.  Then just plug the harnesses back in and your good.  Super fast and you don't have to lay on your back to make the majority of the connections.

if it doesnt have tilt steering thatd work. but the handle to move the column seem to be glued in there since i can never get any of them out. and thats the major thing thats in the way to getting the shroud off.

I may have to wire my 451M for 5 wire locks to the Cavalier I'm doing tomorrow. The directions I have for doing so are faxed and I can't read them very well..

Does someone have a PDF for directions or could someone help me out?

Thanks

Thank you. I found one. The manual shows how to hook it up using two relays but doesn't show how to hook it up using a 451M.

the 451 is like the two relays in one unit and the switching of the relays is cone via the 3 pin locking harness..

so you will have 6 wires coming out com, n/o and n/c for each circuit.

I have never seen a 451 i'm just presuming its like a DLRM.

is there no manual with the 451. try search 451 on here

I need to remove the tilt lever on a Cavalier I'm doing so I can get to the passlock wires.. Does this thing just unscrew or what?? I can't seem to get it out!

Get some vicegrips. Clamp them on right below the plastic right where it becomes metal. And they have loctite on it too. Spray some paint on and it'll be good as new.

Another trick to hide the paint damage is to use a small piece of heat shrink on the lever.

I'm having trouble finding the lock / unlock wires for this vehicle. Also, Directech says the wires are LOCK = LT BLUE and UNLOCK = WHITE however Wiremagic has LOCK = BLUE/GREEN and UNLOCK = BLACK/ RED.

Any idea which one is right and where I can find the bloddy things!??

Thanks

The wires are light blue for lock and white for unlock. They can be found in the taped harness that runs from the driver's kick panel to the back of the car along the sill plate. If the car has factory keyless entry then the door lock system is a positive pulse circuit. If it does not have factory keyless entry then wire the door locks as polarity reversal. The passenger door switch will send 12 volts to the wires when testing.

So they will only test 12v when using the passenger door switch??

Got another question..
No clue what I did… I was testing the brake wire and it was reading 12v so I was like “what the heck?!” I look back and the brake lights are on!! I start the car, pump the brake a couple times and then shut the car off. The brake lights are still on. I unplugged the battery for about 20 minutes and reattached brake lights still on…

Any ideas?

Now I'm just stumped on why the brake lights won't go off..

Have you physically checked the brake switch to confirm it is opening when the brake pedal is not pressed?

Ok. Figured it out.. The piece wasn't touching the brake sensor thing..

I'm done. Everything works but I do have one LAST question..

When I do a remote start the left turn signal light on the dash comes on solid.. I think this is because the vehicle has some burnt out bulbs.. It doesn't come on during a normal start though..
