This is my first combo unit install.  I have been installing stereos for years and have done only about 5-7 remote start installs.

I purchased a nustart (by compustart?) ( sorry I don't recall model number now, it's something like 3000r) combo unit and am haivng trouble with the install.  The unit is not recognizing that the doors are open.  the wiring diagram it indicates that the door trigger wire is red and white.  There are two wires, one of them is a small gauged wire the other is thick (like a constant)  the thin one only shows a change in polarity when the driver's door is opened, the other (the thick one) shows a change when any of the doors is opened.  I tapped into the thicker gauged one and yet nothing happens...does this mean I have the wrong polarity selected on the unit (i didn't see a switch) or is there two different leads for this purpose?

The remote start feature also isn;t working at all, it is showing a door open trouble code, so I tried opening the door and trying to start it and again nothing happens.  Mind you this is the first unit I have installed with a starter kill relay, maybe I have it backwards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am in a remote area, and the dealer is now jacking prices on install due to the demand this time of year.

Is your car auto or manual? If you vehicle has an automatic transmission you will need to cut the green jumper wire inside the unit. If you don't cut the wire it means the installation is for a manual transmission vehicle.

Here is a wiring diagram for your vehicle. Post your connection if you are still stuck. This will probably be easier for everyone here helping you out.

| RR WINDOW UP/DN|grn/blk - blu/blk   |A |drivers kick panel          |

Notes:
*1 One of two black wires. The other wire is an airbag wire. Test with a DIGITAL multi-meter to identify. If you test the wrong wire with a test light of any kind (including computer safe versions), the airbag light will come on and need to be reset by a Toyota dealer. *2 The check connector (diagnostic) is located in the left rear corner of the engine compartment. The tach can also be found at the ignitor in the same location. *3 Found at the pin or light in the trunk on models without anti-theft. *4 The anti-theft module is located in the drivers kick, just left of the fuse box.

I did cut the wire, and it is a automatic trans.

The door trigger wire is the connection that I am haivng troubles with

DOOR TRIGGER|RED / white           |- |drivers kick

Now, I am starting to think that I may not have hooked up the second ignition wire, as the tech/sales person told me that only one was needed.  I remember that sounding wierd at the time, so that may be it as well.

I hooked this thing up last month, and haven't had a chance ot work on it since, so the details are a little foggy.  My car runs and starts just fine so this hasn't been an issue until now with the cold weather we are having here.

Go to the Driver Door Pillar if you are having a hard time locating the door tigger. You will also find it there.

It could be RED / YELLOW, often these diagram are not correct. Look for a RED / Yellow at the drivers kick panel first before you head to the pillar.

does it sound like I have the wrong polarity though?

It's negative polarity. You have to meter the wire to find out.
