Hello!
I just got a new truck (a 1997 Nissan Hardbody extended cab) and there have been (and are...) a lot of break-ins in the area I live (college town). I am wanting to invest in an alarm for my truck, but I really want keyless entry and right now it has manual locks.
My questions are these:
1. How hard is it to install actuators in general, and, more specifically, does anyone have any experience with my particular truck?
2. What is a good alarm to get? How are the ones at Crutchfield? This will be my first alarm install so the tech support is a MAJOR plus, and the $200 model seems to have all that I'm looking for (motion sensor, shock sensor, accessories, etc.) and seems to have a good price. Are there other alarms or features to consider for around the same price? That's about the price I'd like to pay. 3. Besides remote start and keyless entry, what other options are there for the "accessory buttons"?
4. Last, but not least, is it worth it to buy motion sensors for my camper? I will sometimes have expensive guitar equipment in there and would like to protect it, but will the other sensors (motion and shock, to be more specific) pick up a break in? Can I install a sensor on the camper door?

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but for optimum protection search around and find a good quality security installer. An alarm is only as good as the install.
That makes sense. Only problem is that I really don't have the money. The only way I can afford to even buy the alarm is by working over Christmas break (the college life... heh). So I'm more or less forced to do it myself. I know I couldn't match an installers work, but I feel pretty confident in doing it myself, especially with the help of forums such as this. :-)

Not to sure about the alarm you are looking at as I haven't had any experience with those. However some options for you...
1. Actuators pretty easy to install and use usually the worst part is getting the door panels off. Just get a 2 wire actuator wire it in with the alarm
2. Accesory buttons can do a ton of things roll down windows, pop a trunk, open a sunroof, turn on a stereo basically will do whatever you want them too.
3. Motion sensors are a real pain in the ..... Takes a lot of time and then they are finicky. Heres what I suggest for your camper get yourself a doorpin and wire it to the instant trigger on the alarm that way if someone does open the camper door it'll set off the alarm.

All sounds good. I think I will probably go for the trigger on the camper door. I'll have to look into what I would want the accessory buttons to do... heh. That will come with time. As long as I have an alarm and keyless entry, I'll be happy for now. :)
