Hello.

I'd like to install a keyless entry system in my 2003 Civic EX. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good, inexpensive system to buy? I'd like the dome lights to turn on when the car is unlocked. I don't really care about a remote engine start, but if it's not much more expensive and time consuming, I'd take a security feature.

Also, can anyone provide a wiring diagram for me? Are the Civic's door locks positive or negative?

Thanks a lot!

Take a look at www.commandocaralarms.com , For just keyless entry look at the KE-30, for keyless entry and remote start look at the EZ-2200, for keyless entry and alarm look at the 520-S, and for all of the above look at the RS-560, they also have many other options, these are just a few. I provided direct links to each one mentioned.

KE-30  https://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?Productid=1189

EZ-2200   https://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?Productid=495

520-s  https://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?Productid=1188

RS-560    https://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?Productid=1186

I can also recommend other alternatives if these do not satisfy your preference.

Thanks.

you do not need a security feature added since it already has an immobilizer from the factory.  Very easy car to install a keyless entry. It take me ten minutes to do.  To get the domelight to turn on it will do that automatically when you unlock the doors.  Nice factory feature.

for future reference, on the newer Civic's there is a GREEN/ red wire in a grey 2 pin plug (LX) or an 18 or so pin plug (EX) just behind the large grey plug and towards the firewall in the drivers kick. In the EX there's 2 plugs, it's the one behind. This wire catches all doors. (BTW the newer CRV's are virtually the same as the newer Civic's)

Also, the lock/unlock motor wires are right there next to the lock/unlock trigger wires in the same grey plug.

oh and Also, if you want a power trunk release, an Accord latch and motor bolts right on. 3 wires, ground, trigger and release . The Civic already has the ground and trigger, just need to run the release wire to the front. The plugs are not the same, but you can solder to the pins and make your own. Sounds tedeous, but it's pretty quick and easy.

You can get a power wire, (-) lights, ignition, and horn in the green factory alarm plug taped high up under the dash. Then you can get the (-) doorlock triggers just below it. Thats all you need for keyless entry. Really easy car to do a remote start in. Only part I hate is taking apart the steering column to get to the immobilzar wires. Its hard to do without breaking a clip.

JWorm, I don' t understand what you're saying. Do you mean that's all I have to connect a keyless entry system?

Thanks!

J (or anyone for that matter)--would you mind mailing me those documents you sent earlier? Please use this address: family@paonline.com   I just got the Commando 520-S and am ready to install it. I should have brought your directions with me. The ones included with the system look like they were translated from another language. Very confusing.

THANKS!

Mary, what documents did you need? you can post or email me.  You have the vehicle wire diagram from commando right? This alarm is pretty straight forward. It is true that the manual can have poor phrasing and get confusing, but the simple wire diagram should be all you need for this one.  Try to match up the diagram in the install manual with the wires you need to find in the vehicle wire diagram for the 2003 civic.  if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask.

Well, my Dad & I tried installing the system this weekend. Unfortunately it's still not installed. We found the 2 pin gray plug that supposed to control the door locks, but when we tested them we couldn't find a voltage difference during either lock or unlock. Since the wind chill was close to zero and we don't have a garage that's about as far as we got.

I'm willing to keep trying, especially since it's supposed to warm up to freezing. Any suggestions for me?

If you have a test light, put the clip on a piece of metal, then you can just touch one wire with the test light probe and the doors will either lock or unlock.  or you can just hook up you door lock output to them and see if it works.

the alarm green wire goes to the WHITE/ blue wire, and the Blue wire goes the WHITE/ green wire.

Ask any more questions you have.

just to clarify, the doorlock wires are not in a 2 pin gray plug, they are in a ~12 pin plug, still gray, but the large main plug on the metal bracket right above the driver kick panel, panel. The wires face up and down, the door lock wires are the last 2 closest to the engine side.

Brrr . . . too cold and still no garage.

Anyone know of an installer in the Baltimore, MD or Harrisburg, PA area? (Or State College, PA for this weekend?)

Thanks.
