Matrix RSIII and Viper 791XV

I have a a Chevy S10 that has the guts of a matrix RSIII already installed. The guy I bought it from said his remote stopped working. So he took out the speaker and pulled the main power fuse to the alarm brain. I recently went out and bought a 791XV and I want to swap them out. I know everyone says they are the same alarm and they wire the same. Can I expect it to be as simple as me unplugging the old brain and plugging the new one in? I planned on using the new speaker and antenna as well. I know that when the matrix worked for him, it worked well. The wire harness plug-in's look the same on the brain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

since both are made by dei they should be very similar, but double check your harnesses to make sure they match up. hopefully you'll get lucky with this, but from my experience it's better to just wire in the new unit. you already have all the wires located, and it'll save you tons of time if you have to trouble shoot it.

Yeah I was crossing my fingers that it would work out to be very easy. I've wired a lot of car things but not an alarm. I figured I would do just that and trace the wires to see if they match up. Don't wanna end up with a taosted alarm brain.

Yea just redo the alarm so if there were any connection problems in the first alarm they won't pose a problem when you put the new one in.

Well, I've started dismantling the old alarm and I must say...what a HORRID install.  I'm not a professional not do I claim to be but some of this stuff is enough to make me want to write the company that installed this.  The 2 definatly have differences but since it appears that most of the work was done directly under the dash it should be very easy to use the same wires.  Definatly going to have to go back over each one though.  I had always wondered why things were buggy in the truck.  ie the odometer and tranny indicator flickers all the time stereo system on or not.  (which is always what I passed it off as) Now I am definatly wondering if they chopped something installing the old one.  I guess the only other thing that would help me out is if any of you have and under dash factory wire guide for a 2000 chevy s10 4.3 v6.  They less I have to probe the better.  Thanks for listening to me gripe.
