does anyone know what these data wires do, and if, or how you can test for them at all?
I had a vehicle in our install bay for like 3 hours, trying to put in a PKF 3 bypass, and it lists 4 different wireplug configurations for diff vehicles/models. Now the vehicles plug, was not the one that is called for on the actual manual for the bypass. I tried testing for the right wires etc, but they all gave me nothing.
is there anything i can do?

What Year, Make & Model ......FORD??
There are some Fords that have to use the PK F-2 also.
The way I check is to Meter for Power & Ground at the Ring Plug, with the Key In the Ignition.
Then that usually leaves you with 2 wires, which would be the TX & RX wires
Sometimes the identifier picture doesn't look the same as the plug, but the wires will usually be in the order listed with the closest picture

Go to bypass.com and get a print out of your module's install guide. It lists all the affected vehicles and shows pictures of the 4 types of plugs you are after. The plug is at the transponder ring/module around the ignition cylinder. They label the wiring for you. It's real simple.
