Ok so this is my problem... the car started perfectly before anything...

ok so at the start i hooked up my ignition wires and i accedently blew the fuse...no problem.. replaced... did so,me other wires and had lunch but before i had lunch i started the truck so i knew it worked after i blew that fuse... i started it cuz i had to move it..

after lunch I come back and finished the wireing.... ok all done now lets try it... crank crank it starts and then wham dies... like it dosnt want to STAY started

i disconnected everything i just connected and checked ALL my fuses (i think all.. checked inside fuse panel and engine fuse panel...) unless anyone knows of a hidden fuse?

But basically this is my problem... if I crank it... it starts but then quickly dies it seems like.

Does anyone have ANY idea??

Thanks!

When you say it starts and then dies, do you mean the key or with the remote?

just with the key

I have removed all the wires that I added now that were for the alarm (me in frustration)

Sounds like a passlock problem make sure those wires have a good connection.

change that... maybe it does have passlock... however theres no security light or anything? and the previous remote start module never had anything else connected to it that i can see that tried to bypass it...

any ideas? where should i look?

99 should have passlock. look at the yellow and ORANGE / black (maybe black) wires in the ignition harness. make sure they are ok.

from what i see... the ORANGE / black wire is cut

again.. there was a remote starter on this that i just removed

if it does have passlock... wouldnt it be bypassed already if anything? the wire is cut... i have never bypassed a passlock 2 before

Read this for a little insight:

If the ORANGE / Black is cut .....Connect it back together, because it Does NOT need to be cut, ......Just spliced into
Either locate your OLD ByPASS or purchase a NEW one ( better idea ) & hook up.

The ORANGE / black wire needs to be put back together.  I would buy a passlock bypass module much easier dei has the 555l or 556l. Other companies make them just not sure of the part numbers.

ok i have purchased the 555l module and hooked it up properly however i cannot get it to 'learn' since for it to learn i think u need the car to start with the key...which it dosnt

it looks like passlock has totally locked me out and will not start the car (well starts then dies)...what do I do?

is there a method to reset it? i have tried leaving it in acc for 10minutes with no luck

big truck stuck in my garage at the moment lol

Try diconnecting the battery for awhile.

iv tried that also...

for only 15 minutes however..

no luck

I would put the yellow wire back together and get it starting with the key before messing with bypass module. The yellow wire im talking about is a thin not the thcik yellow starter wire also make sure the ORANGE / black is back together. good luck.

i tried that too

that was the first thingi tried and nothing

one thing i want to note is with the old remote starter that was on it... i did not see a bypass at all... all i saw was the ORANGE / black wire that was cut which was wierd... it was fine when it was like that but still it makes no sense

did some old remote starters have passlock 2 built in or something? or another spot where the guy might have bypassed (and now its not?)...

I am in a very stuck situation any help will be appreciated!

does anyone have any other ideas???

I cant get this thing to start with the key

You said that the remote start was installed by someone else. I think they cheated and bypassed the passlock the cheap way. If the truck was started with the key and then the passlock wire was cut then the security would have been bypassed. The truck would know that the passlock issue happened after the truck was running and would not allow the passlock to stop the truck from starting. The only thing that would be changed is the security light would be on. (if the blub hasen't been removed). If you reconnected this passlock wire and the truck won't start, I would assume that you have a cut key instead of the original. If this is the cause (since the passlock wire has been reconnected) you will have to use the original Coded (resistance) key.

hmm maybe that was the way because when i opened it up the ORANGE / black wire was the only wire cut

however... the key is not a cut key and is the original key...

maybe it is working however i am in tamper mode and simply cannot get out of it? thats my guess because i have rechecked everything.

right now i just reconnected the BLACK/ orange and the yellows back to FACTORY and am letting the key sit inside on RUN for alittle bit... hopeing it will do SOMETHING

anyone have any more ideas?

did nothing

im so frustrated right now, have never run into this problem EVER

this is the 2nd day of the truck not starting because of this damn passlock and I dont understand why it just dosnt want to reset

This might be stupid, but are you sure the passlock is the problem? If the security light isn't on or flashing, it may be another problem with the truck not getting fuel or something.

Also, if you haven't done so already I would follow the passlock wires all the way from the key cylinder to anywhere they may have been used for the remote start...the passlock connector has the ORANGE / black, RED / white, and yellow wires, and is a 3-pin connector that goes directly into the key cylinder.

it has to be because it was working...

Iv followed the passlock wires as much as possible and I cannot see anything at all.

Any other ideas? im at a total loss at this point

is there some kind of fuse or anything thats hidden for the passlock? or ANYTHING..... im really dumbfounded from this right now and really just want this to start at this point

When you turn the key to the on position, do you here the fuel pump running??? If you do, while cranking the engine check for spark. You menitioned that you had blown a fuse, was this a ignition fuse??? Check these things out and post a reply......

yup again the engine starts and then quickly dies... u can tell the engine is getting fuel and then bam it cuts it..

Then this is a passlock problem, aii I can suggest now is measuring the resistance with the key in the on position, and match it with either resistors or a dip switch unit. This will try and permently bypass the passlock while hooked in line.

Also check around the steering colmun for a second key. These systems will not read two keys at same time. It will start and stop. Go and get a cut key instead of the original and try it. Please post your results.

The passlock system does not need a special key the r code is generated by the key cylinder so just getting a new key does no good. Does this yucon have the square info box in the cluster if so what does it say when trying to start. If its not saying security I would say its not a problem with the passlock  system. if it is and you have all the passlock wires back together it could be the key cylinder is bad they have quite a bit of problems with those key cylinders. Also somthing else to check is to make sure you removed any pieces to the other alarm and reconected any cut wires so if it had any type of imobilizer with the other system its took off.

I kind of had the same problem with my 99 suburban, the passlock bypass module died, car would not start with key or remote start.  I put the cut yellow wire from ign cylinder back together and car started. I took it apart a week later to measure resistance on the Ing cylinder (523 ohms on mine) put the yellow wire back together and would not start. I tried disconnecting the battery, nothing worked. I ended up putting a battery charger on it for about 15-20 min and then it started???? Might help

update

Ok so the owner found another key... but it was after 2 days of it sitting (chrismtas and all)... poped in the other factory key, and boom she started..and stays started

now hopefully I can finish the install and install the 555l

and btw... there is NO security light... everyone keeps saying there is one in the cluster and thats a negative... shinned a light sideways on it to see all the lights and there is NO security light

Did you check the owners manual, security light should be in the upper right corner of the speedometer cluser if its a early 99 or left side if its later 99.

Most likely it was not the key that fixed it since the resistor is in the lock tumbler, it seems like it takes time for the passlock to settle down.

says nothing about a security light in the manual

and i was also thinking that... 2 days tho like wow... cuz i did let it sit for a whole day (well 12hours) and that ended up in nothing... 2 days did the trick

now im scared to install the 555l and run into the same situation hah what are ur recomendations on install it?

should i start the car FIRST and then cut yellow, and attach the 555l

Posted By: supercruiser

No I would hook everyting up, before trying to start it.  It gets confused when it doesn't see the resistance(basically the proper voltage)  from the lock cylinder.

so ur saying cut the yellow and hook 1 up to the 555l and other to the 555l... put the ground from the 555l to another ground (not ORANGE / black)...

and then try and fire it up?

Posted By: supercruiser
Date Posted: December 27, 2005 at 8:55 AM

No, I would hook everything up before I tried to start it.  It gets confused if it does not see the proper resistance from the lock cylinder.  And then you KNOW  what happens.

ya ...

everything is hooked up already EXCEPT the 555L

thats why i said.. should i cut the yellow and install the 555L and then try starting it witht he key? and then if that works... remote start

Posted By: supercruiser

when you cut the yellow wire you basically have two wires, one that goes towards you key or lock cylinder, that half of the yellow wire connecst to the yellow wire on the 555L, the other half of the yellow wire you cut goes to the BLACK / YELLOW on the 555L, you also need to attache the Black wire on the 555L to the ORANGE / black wire coming from the lock cylinder DO NOT CUT this wire just attach to it. The other wire connections on the 555L are pretty easy. After you connect everthing follow the instructions on the 555L to auto learn.

sorry that wasn't that clear

cut half of yellow wire that goes towards the key cylinder goes to Yellow wire on 555L

The other half of the cut yellow wire goes to the BLACK / YELLOW on the 555L

the ORANGE / blk wire coming down from key cyinder ties to black on 555L (do not cut ORANGE / Blk just tie to it)
