Hi
I installed a Remote Starter into a '94 Chevy pick up. After doing more than 1000 installs I figured I have seen most of it. But, apparantly not all. I've done lots of 2000+ Chevy products and none gave me this problem before. The issue was the temperature sender in the engine block. The installation went off without a problem. The vehicle started ran and had no issue as I could see. My customer called me a day or so later saying his temp gauge didn't work anymore. I told him it must be a coincedence. So he replaced the sender. The second sender lasted a couple of days and blew up. It blew the top right off it. I told him maybe he overtightened it. He put in a new one and the same thing happened. Now he was back saying it has to be the car starter causing it. So, I check Wiremagic and Directechs to confirm what I did. All necessary wires from the R/S were attatched to the IGN sw. The customer said he noticed that the temp gauge didn't work till the IGN sw was turned on. This lead me to believe the brown wire in this year truck was needed to keep the gauge working during remote starting. I hooked it up to the R/S and everything was ok. The temp gauge worked and the sender didn't blow up.
Sorry for the length of this but, Has anybody ever seen this before. AST tech support never heard of it either.

I haven't been doing remote starts for too long but THAT is some messed up sh**. Good job on figuring it out, though!

i have never had a problem like that......i have hooked up a bunch of remote starts on that same year.

I've done hundreds of those trucks and never had to power the brown accessory circuit. I'll bet that somebody has done some creative wiring in the truck somewhere and has caused this condition. The brown acc. wire is only for the radio and wipers.
