Looking for the doorlock wire for installing Astra remote start/keyless entry on a 96 chevy truck. I know it goes from the door to the kickpanel but I cant get my hand to the other side of the kick panel if that makes sense. Where is the best location to cut these wires?

best bet is if you can get the wires into the drivers door, just pick the wires up directly at the switch.  Easiest way to get the wires and you'll not have any problems figuring out which side of the wire is the switch side and whatnot.

Can someone out there explain how a tach signal works with a remote starter in lamens terms? Is it always best to install the tach or is it best to go tachnless if that option is available? My understanding is this sense with the engine starts and this tells the remote starter to stop cranking.

I am installing remote start on a 96 chevy truck. I soldered the tack from the unit to a box on the drivers fender with four plug in wiring harnesses to it. (I think this is the ECM). I soldered that wire to the white wire on the plug in harness that said "white". Just curiuous but if someday this tach wire to the brain ever grounded out would this dammage the computer?

I appreciate you patience with me. I am trying to learn.

What if I took off the rubber boot between the door and kick panel and made the connections there so I dont have to remove the door panel?

I am a newbie to soldering. I have a pencil tip popular mechanics soldering iron. I cant get the wire hot enough to melt my solder. Am I doing something wrong/ Do I need another soldering iron? WHat would you recomment for the thicker wire such as the starter wires?

Where is the best place to acess the wiring to install remote door locks on this truck? (The door lock and unlock wiring)
